People with disabilities and their families have been waiting for crucial changes in the financial support strategy for years. Expectations are enormous, especially in the context of rising costs of surviving and frequently insufficient benefits. Although the increase in social pensions to minimum wage levels was 1 of the social demands, the government is now proposing another solution. The fresh addition of about PLN 2500 per period is to support those who are completely incapable of working and independent existence. Who will be able to benefit from this support, and what will be the rules for granting it?
According to legartis.pl, during the work of the Permanent Subcommittee on Persons with Disabilities and Social Inclusion, a citizens' draft amendment of the Social Pension Act was considered. This task assumed to increase the amount of the benefit from the current PLN 1217.98 net to the minimum wage for work. This would be a revolutionary move, importantly expanding financial support for people with disabilities.

However, Mrs KO Iwon Kozłowski proposed an alternate solution. As part of the draft amendments, she suggested introducing a fresh social pension allowance. It would benefit people who are completely incapable of working and surviving independently, and its amount would be the difference between the minimum wage at the end of 2024 and the lowest pension for full incapacity for work. Currently, this difference is about PLN 2500 per month.
The proposal gained the support of the Deputy household Minister and the government's lawyer for disabled people, Łukasz Krasonia. He announced parallel work on an additional bill that would extend the right to this allowance besides to those receiving another types of pension, if they had a declared inability to live independently.
Valorisation and Impact on another Benefits
