A real revolution is coming in the food control strategy and dietary supplements in Poland. The government is finalising work on the revision of the key laws, which aims to seal the system, increase consumer safety and ruthlessly end unfair practices. The task prepared by the Ministry of wellness involves the complete digitisation of procedures, the elimination of unnecessary bureaucracy and the drastic increase of financial penalties for companies breaking the rules. The changes are due to come into force in 2025.

No more paper notifications and discretion – the era of digital supervision is coming, where all decision will be recorded in the central system. For consumers, this is good news, meaning greater transparency and certainty that products entering the store shelves are well controlled. The draft amendment to the Food Safety and Nutrition Act and the State Sanitary Inspection Act has already been included in the list of legislative work of the government.

A digital revolution in the Sanepid. No more paperwork.

One of the most noticeable changes will be complete transfer of the notification procedure for fresh dietary supplements to the Central Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS) to the digital system. The previously, frequently slow and burdensome process based on paper notifications with its own signature will be forgotten. It will be replaced by a full electronic system, which is expected to importantly accelerate and simplify formalities for entrepreneurs.

The fresh applications will be sent straight to the digital registry via the e-Sanepid platform and the integrated strategy of Records of the State Sanitary Inspection (SEPIS). That is not all – digitalisation will besides include Registration of food production, distribution and contact materials. The aim is to make a single central database that will let for much more effective surveillance and fast flow of information between control authorities.
