NIK will check that medicines in Poland are safe
The ultimate Chamber of Control (NIK) begins control over the marketing of medicinal products. Actions will include Ministry of Health, Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate (GIF) and Provincial Pharmaceutical Inspectorates.
As the NIK emphasizes, the decision to control the careful analysis of drug safety issues. The aim is to measure whether national authorities effectively care for the availability and legality of medicines.
What precisely will NIK check?
The controllers will focus on:
- Performance of GIF supervision over drug trading facilities,
- Monitoring the availability of medicines on the market,
- Detection of illicit trafficking medicinal products,
- GIF cooperation with another institutions to combat irregularities.
GIF withdrew 5 series of Elenium – what went wrong?
In April 2025. The Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate withdrew 5 series of Elenium. The decision afraid 5 mg, 10 mg and 25 mg tablets.
The withdrawn series are:
- Elenium 5 mg – series 11221 (validation to 11.2025) and 3122 (validation to 10.2026),
- Elenium 10 mg – series 30122 (validation to 12.2025) and 50622 (validation to 05.2026),
- Elenium 25 mg – Series 10423 (validation to 10.2026).
The reason for the withdrawal was abnormal release of the active substance, possibly caused repackaging tablets. Problem reported Tarchomin’s Pharmaceutical Plant “Polfa”. GIF gave the decision rigor of immediate feasibilityWhich means the drugs had to be removed from the pharmacy immediately.
Can patients trust the drug control system?
The upcoming control of NIK aims at verification that the drug surveillance strategy is working properly. In fresh years, there have been many signals about problems with availability of medicines and irregularities in their distribution.
Are there changes in the pharmaceutical strategy after NIK checks? Control results may affect new legislation or changes in marketplace surveillance.
