More than 160 Christians were abducted yesterday in a coordinated attack on 3 places of worship: 2 Evangelical temples and 1 Catholic church in northern Nigeria. The followers of Christ attended Sunday services.

The abduction took place in Kurmin Wali, Kaduna, in the Kajuru region located in the forests. Armed men entered the places of worship, spreading panic and kidnapping participants of Catholic Mass and Evangelical services. Initially, there were 177 abducted, but 11 escaped.

So far, no one's confessed to the kidnapping. However, everything points to the fact that it is about kidnapping for ransom, which for years has been the main origin of armed income for the band in this hard-to-access – due to dense forests and bad road conditions – part of the country.

Nigerian ecclesiastical superiors call these attacks in the course of worshiping temples that violate the right to spiritual freedom.

Today, an interview with Bishop Wilfred Chikpa Anagbe, head of the Diocese of Makurdi, appeared in the Italian paper Avvenire. "I, a bishop in Nigeria, tell you that the genocide of Christians is taking place," said the hierarch concerning the waves of force against Christ's followers in his homeland.
