Recent events on the political phase of Germany show the worrying direction in which the public debate is taking place in our western neighbour. Kay Gottschalk from alternate for Germany (AfD) published on platform X a postulate that not only shocks, but exposes deep hidden anti-Polish phobias. He announced that Poland should pay 1.3 trillion Euros of reparations for “participation in blowing up Nord Stream pipelines”.
German politician demands reparation from Poland. Gottschalk's request makes good neighbourly relations between states. Accusing Poland of "share in sabotage" is not only an effort to transfer work for actions of Ukrainian intelligence to the ground of political speculation, but besides cynical game on emotions and anti-Polish prejudices of AfD supporters. specified claims are contrary to the facts: there is no credible evidence of Poland's guilt and the demolition of Nord Stream remains the subject of global investigations, in which Poland's participation has not yet been confirmed.
Moreover, specified statements fall within the broader trend in which AfD and its representatives are exceptionally frequently beyond the limits of liable policy. This party, although increasing in polls, is regularly criticized for its relations with Russia and suspicions of sharing confidential information with its representatives. This is simply a dangerous signal: the group that aspires to exercise power is based not on pragmatic analysis of national interests, but on confrontational language and extremes, thrown against weaker neighbors.
The postulate of reparation in this form not only ignores legal and historical realities, but besides severely depreciates the sense of global dialogue. Accusing European partners of terrorist activities without verified evidence undermines the trust that underpins cooperation within the European Union and NATO.

It is besides impossible to overlook the broader context: for years there has been a debate on war reparations between Poland and Germany. Berlin has repeatedly recognised that this issue has been closed in a legal sense, although it remains open in the moral and discriminating sphere. An effort to usage it instrumentally by AfD to attack Poland in the context of contemporary events specified as Nord Stream is simply a gross rhetorical abuse. This is most likely an effort to invent “anti-reparation”, like the Russians, recognising the russian crime in Katyn as a fact, at the same time they began intensively seeking “anti-catania”.
AfD's behaviour is not conducive to building a common safety area or trust in Central and east Europe. On the contrary, it escalates tensions and acts in favour of those forces that have no interest in European unity. What is peculiarly interesting, AfD cooperates in the European Parliament with the Polish Confederation party. It is not clear what her Polish partners think. For they took water into their mouths.
