Changes in the Polish education strategy do not bypass physical education lessons. The Minister of Education, Barbara Nowacka, announces a revolution in the WF program aimed at expanding the diversity of sports, promoting outdoor activities and adapting lessons to the needs of contemporary students. The changes aim not only to improve the physical condition of young people, but besides to adapt classes to their interests and expectations. The fresh physical education programme will enter into force in September 2025.
Changes in the basis of physical education
Barbara Nowacka, Minister of Education, in an interview with Program III of Polish Radio, revealed details about the fresh basis for program physical education. 1 of the main changes is the greater variety of sports. As the minister explained, the aim is that students have a wider choice of classes, not limited to just 1 discipline, as happens in many schools where volleyball dominates.
“We are inactive learning volleyball, and not all of them are volleyball fans. Others like basketball, athletics, and others would like to effort dancing” – emphasised Nowacka. The introduction of athletics diversity is simply a consequence to the expectations of young people, who, at the student tables round, clearly pointed out the request to change the programme.
Outdoor athletics – a key component of the fresh programme
Another crucial change in the physical education program is the promotion of outdoor activity. Minister Nowacka points out that outdoor exercises are an excellent way to strengthen the physical resilience of young people. According to expert recommendations, outdoor athletics besides has a beneficial effect on the intellectual wellness of students, as well as fosters group integration.
“This gives resilience, which is peculiarly crucial today” said the Minister. These changes are a consequence to a increasing number of wellness problems, including a decline in student mobility skills, noted by specialists in studies conducted by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sport.
Adapting to the needs of students – flexibility in gym classes
The Minister of Education besides stressed that the fresh physical education programme takes into account the diversity of individual student needs. As part of the fresh approach, students who for various reasons will not be able to participate in activities on a given day will be able to make up for deficiency of activity in the form of individual exercises, specified as walk or exercise at home. "Are you feeling worse today? Work it back by taking steps” – added Nowacka.
This flexibility in the approach to WF lessons allows students to better adjust physical activity to their health, which can have a affirmative impact on their motivation for regular exercises.
Expert squad and public consultation
Changes to the physical education programme were not made without consulting experts. The squad developing the fresh programme basis included PE teachers, trainers, titled athletes and psychologists who worked together to guarantee that the program was both substantively solid and adapted to the contemporary needs of students.
The programme bases have been developed taking into account the results of extended investigation that showed that student mobility skills compared to erstwhile generations have deteriorated. investigation results indicate that younger generations have mediocre physical condition, which affects their overall efficiency in later years.
When will the fresh rules come into force?
Changes in the basis of physical education will be implemented on September 1, 2025. It will then be for the first time that primary and secondary school students will be able to benefit from a varied programme that will take into account both outdoor athletics and greater diversity of disciplines.
These changes aim not only to improve the physical condition of students, but besides to adapt lessons to their interests and needs, which can contribute to greater motivation for physical activity.
The changes to the physical education program announced by the Ministry of Education are a consequence to the increasing needs of students and changing challenges of the modern world. By introducing more diversity of sports and promoting outdoor activities, schools have the chance to make a more friendly and motivating environment for the improvement of physical youth. Time will show how fresh rules will affect the physical condition and engagement of students in the future.
