Two notifications concerning Karol Nawrocki, a candidate for president of the Republic of Poland, were received by the prosecution. The case concerns the acquisition of real property in Gdańsk and raises many controversy during the election campaign.
The EPPO shall initiate proceedings
The territory Attorney's Office in Warsaw informed that it received two reports of suspected crime connected with the acquisition of an flat in Gdańsk by Karol Nawrocki. Notices were submitted Senator Magdalena Biejat and a private person. The case was transferred to the Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk due to local jurisdiction.
"Two notifications of a suspected crime involving the acquisition of real property in Gdańsk by 1 of the candidates for the office of president of the Republic of Poland were sent in accordance with the local property to the Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk" – reads the release.

Doubts surrounding Nawrocki's apartment
The case broke out after Nawrocki stated during the election debate that has only 1 apartment. However, he later revealed property statementin which he mentioned two properties (held with his wife) and third, 50% co-ownership with sister.
In consequence to Nawrocki's allegations, he announced that hand over a studio in Gdańsk for charity. He explained that the property received from 80-year-old Jerzy Z. In exchange for care, however, the media reports that his engagement in helping an older man has not been confirmedwho is in a nursing home.
“There are those who can’t imagine helping another man with no self. Evil must be conquered with good” said Nawrocki.
Was it just about profit?
According to Onetu and ‘Electoral Gazette’, Nawrocki was to buy an flat in 2017 for PLN 120 thousand, while Jerzy Z. acquired them in 2011 for only PLN 12 thousand (10 % of marketplace value) thanks to the right of pre-emption. Currently, the property is worth approx. PLN 400 thousand.
Nawrocki's election staff denies the allegations, claiming never utilized an apartment and that formally The owner is inactive Jerzy Z.. The politician besides explained that paid the payment for the apartment, although he did not specify the exact amounts.
Political repercussions
The case became 1 of the main topics of the campaign. Opposition politicians accuse Nawrocki of dishonesty, while The PiS believes that the publication of the property message and the decision to donate the flat for charity ends the case.
