Karol Nawrocki, candidate for president of the Republic of Poland and president of the IPN, signed a historical programme agreement with the social movement "Catholics with Karol Nawrocki". The event took place at the Shrine of St. Andrew Bobola in Strachocin, where Nawrocki gave a speech on the function of Christian values in Poland and Europe.

"The European Union turns its back on Christian foundations"

In his speech Nawrocki emphasized that over 1000 years of Polish past is shaping the identity of the nation. He pointed out that the modern European Union was moving distant from the values on which it was built.

There is simply a clear place for the symbol of the Catholic cross and Christian values, which we see in the reflection of sacral architecture throughout Poland, Polish villages, municipalities and districts. There we are enshrined in the Christian values that have become the foundation of our Homeland and the common European Union, although the European Union is forgetting this today. It must so be recalled that a common Europe is built on Christian values and foundations said Nawrocki.

“Poland that remains Poland”

The candidate thanked representatives of 20 Catholic organizations who joined the movement, stressing that their commitment was crucial for building Poland based on Christian values.

You do not hesitate to make decisions that will be good for Poland and which will be good for Poland built on the community of Christian values. Catholic values are crucial to us, so present we have met here with the thought of what Poland will be like after 18 May 2025. – he added.

Nawrocki besides recalled the function of the Catholic Church in times of oppression:

The church for the German and russian business was a refuge, thanks to which social efforts to make Poland free and independent were cumulative. We must besides see this in future decisions of the president of Poland.

“We have the right to talk about Poland based on our values”

Nawrocki appealed to the words of Blessed Fr Jerzy Popiełuszko, who said “The top weakness of all priest and all individual in public life is the fear that shrinks the heart and tightens the throat”. In this context, he stressed that Catholics have the right to express their views publicly.

We Christians, we Catholics have the right to talk about Poland, about our future and about the symbol of the cross, the symbol of love, mercy and triumph of good over evil, is part of our national community – he noted.

Modernity and religion – can they be reconciled?

In the second part of Nawrocka's speech, he addressed the challenges of the modern world, pointing out that advancement does not mean abandoning tradition.

Modernity does not require people to separate themselves from roots and values – he said, recalling his fresh visit to the White home at a ceremony on spiritual freedom.

President Donald Trump referred to Judeo-Christian values that are crucial to the United States. Yes, we request freedom of religion, freedom to be like Saint Andrew Bobola and our holy Pope John Paul II, in dialog with those who think differently and who believe differently. For this is our faith, it is the religion of ecumeny, openness, love and mercy.

Summary

Karol Nawrocki, through his cooperation with Catholic organizations, clearly defines his programme – Poland is to stay faithful to its Christian roots, even in the face of changes in the European Union and global challenges. Will this imagination convince voters? We will know the answer soon.
