In the shadow of the upcoming presidential election, the case of Karol Nawrocki – a candidate supported by the Law and Justice – sparks a political earthquake. Onetu editorials published a shocking report, in which there are allegations that Nawrocki during his work as a safety defender at the Sopot Grand Hotel took part in the process of organizing prostitutes for the hotel's clients. Witness relations are clear, and political scene responses are quick.
Witnesses confirm: “Nawrocki was in the deal”
Journalists Andrzej Stankiewicz and Jacek Harłukowicz from Onetu reached 2 witnesses, who agreed that Karol Nawrocki – presently a prominent figure in the PiS camp – was to take part in bringing prostitutes to the Grand Hotel. 1 erstwhile safety officer testified:
“The hotel guests chose prostitutes from social sites, specified as the no longer existing Departures.pl, to encourage their bodyguards to do so, showing offers on the computer in a public area with hotel guests computers other the reception. Nawrocki or 1 of his men then called the “coordinator” who brought these women to the hotel.”
Witnesses besides claim that women would not be able to enter the hotel without the cognition and approval of security, indicating the existence of an organized arrangement. The price of the gathering with the social female was around PLN 100–150, but the hotel customers charged more. The difference was in the pocket of bodyguards and intermediaries.
Contact network and dark past
According to Onetu, people from Nawrock's immediate surroundings at the time were people associated with organized crime – some, like Olgird L. nickname “Olo”, controlled the tri-city prostitution marketplace even from behind bars. This strengthens the message of the existence of a structure resembling classical purgatory, described in Article 204 §1 of the Criminal Code.
Political background and reactions
The case rapidly became 1 of the main political themes. Prime Minister Donald Tusk described Nawrocki's unions as "dangerous" and "compromising for Poland's reputation". In sharp words he besides addressed Jarosław Kaczyński:
“You knew everything, Jarosław. About relationships with gangs, about “getting girls”. All work for this disaster falls on you.”
The PiS president himself replied that it was “one large lie” and called Onetu's actions “a disgusting campaign”.
In turn, the Euro MPs of the Law and Justice Adam Bielan He stated that the publication was a “scrupulous individual attack” and recalled that Karol Nawrocki “was repeatedly speaking on this subject”. He besides added that it was a "coordinated attack by institutions related to Donald Tuski".
Media and commentators: "A nail to the run coffin"
Internet users, politicians and journalists reacted immediately. Comments leave no illusions about the political burden of this matter. Cezary Tomczyk of KO wrote:
"Or the court in electoral procedure, or Nawrocki was a sutener".

Agnieszka Pomask adds:
“Karol Nawrocka was besides a sutener. The same Charles who aspires to the most crucial function in Poland. specified a candidate was chosen by Kaczyński, with God and conventional values on his lips.”
I didn't know that. Karol Nawrocki was besides a sutener. He was active in bringing prostitutes to the Sopot Grand Hotel. The same Charles who aspires to the most crucial function in Poland. specified a candidate was chosen by Kaczyński, with God and conventional values on his lips. pic.twitter.com/tpN5xHeRku

In turn, Euro MP Adam Sz Trapka from KO cited circumstantial provisions:
‘Nawrock's Carol. Article 204 KK. Persecution. Up to 5 years imprisonment’.

There are besides ironic comments, like the entry of Minister Radosław Sikorski:
"Let him who has never tried mating erstwhile he was young throw the first stone."
Let him who, in his youth, has never tried pimping first throw a stone. https://t.co/CYPdNFTPVc

Is this the end of Karol Nawrocki's career?
Onetu reports hit a key component of the PiS run – a communicative of values, patriotism and morality. If witnesses actually decide to attest in court, this can lead not only to the defeat of the Nawrock campaign, but besides to serious political consequences for the full ruling camp.
In the face of Article 204 §1 of the Criminal Code, which penalises pimping and facilitating prostitution (punishment for up to 5 years of imprisonment), the case may not only be media but besides procedural.
In the context of the caselaw, it is worth referring to the judgement of the Court of Appeal in Krakow of 28 September 2017 (II AKa 157/17), which states that:
"It is adequate to show that the perpetrator has facilitated prostitution by gaining an asset or individual benefit from it – regardless of whether he has physically contacted women himself."
Political fire or judicial cold?
The case of Karol Nawrocki shows that the past, even from years ago, can return with a doubled force – especially erstwhile it concerns the individual claiming to be the highest office in the state. The answer to sensational allegations should be the process, not the political narrative, whatever the result of this proceeding.
