This has been said for respective months, but present words have become deeds, due to the fact that the global Criminal Court in The Hague has been affected request for arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The motion was brought by ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan, despite earlier protests by both Benjamin Netanjah and U.S. president Joe Biden. For the first time in the past of the ICC it happened that a leader of a country associated with the United States was accused of war crimes and the first time the Israeli Prime Minister faces the heaviest charges, in addition with defence minister Yoav Galant.
This must be an highly painful situation for Netanyahu and Galanta, as the same charges have been heard by Hamas leaders: Jahja Sinwar, Mohammed Deif and Ismail Hanije. In turn, CNN, known for its left-wing views in its information, stresses that:
This decision puts Netanyahu in the company of Russian president Vladimir Putin, for whom the ICC issued an arrest warrant in connection with the war in Ukraine.
The ICC is an global tribunal, with most countries, but there are no Israel, USA, China and Russia among them.. This means that Israeli politicians in these countries may feel impunityless, but all another countries belonging to the ICC are obliged to arrest those subject to a warrant, which will most likely happen in the next phase of the procedure. Furthermore, the ICC argues that it has jurisdiction over Gaza, East Jerusalem and the West Bank, as Palestinian leaders agreed to comply with the Court's founding principles in 2015.
Of course, the proceedings before the ICC have been linked to what has been happening in Israel and the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. Prosecutor Karim Khan stated that he was convinced that Netanjah, Galant and Hamas leaders had committed war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Israel and in the Gaza Strip. Netanjahu and Gallant are to hear very concrete allegations, including: extermination in the Gaza Strip, causing hunger as a method of conducting conflict, preventing humanitarian aid supplies to civilians, as well as deliberately targeting civilians as a mark during the war.
A tragedy with the participation of a Polish volunteer gave all these crimes peculiar publicity. Damian Sobol died on 1 April 2024 in the Gaza Strip, following an Israeli army attack on an unarmed humanitarian convoy organized by the planet Central Kitchen Foundation. However, everything indicates that they did not bring any consequence of threats and emotional blackmail by the Prime Minister of Israel, who tried to relativize his own crimes, even with specified a statement:
We are denied the right to defend ourselves against those who want to commit genocide on us. It's a distortion of justice and history.
The anti-Semitism baton, which Israeli politicians, but besides Jews themselves, have given up on critics pointing to genocide in the Gaza Strip. The global community has recognised that Israel has crossed all limits and Benjamin Netanjahu is no different in his criminal activities than Vladimir Putin or the leaders of terrorist organizations.
