More than a 1000 doctors in the UK have called for Members to vote against the bill legalising euthanasia for terminally ill, which is presently being examined by Parliament “ Sky News reported on Monday.

The bill assumes assisted death for terminally sick people who are little than six months old. Healthy people over the age of 18 may request euthanasia.

“More than a 1000 doctors sent a letter to the parliamentarians calling for them to vote against the euthanasia bill, calling it a ‘real threat to both patients and wellness professionals’, stated the tv station in a statement.

The text will return to the lower home of Parliament on Friday for the 3rd reading and MPs will vote on it on June 20, reports Sky News. If the bill is approved, it will go to the home of Lords (High home of Parliament) for consideration.

However, many doctors, including those honored by the Order of the British Empire, argue the bill, reports the channel. They believe that the authorities have not heard adequate evidence from medical professionals, disabled people and representatives of marginalised groups. At the same time, even any doctors who support the thought of euthanasia or treat it neutrally are afraid about the text, read the material.

In particular, doctors fear that medical specialists will not be able to correctly find erstwhile people are forced to die, reports Sky News. The right to euthanasia in law can besides increase social inequality. In addition, medical forecasts are not always accurate, so patients can opt for euthanasia, even though they could live for months or years.

The bill on euthanasia for terminally sick was presented in October 2024. At the end of November, most British MPs approved it at second reading.

Earlier, Times published poll results, according to which 65% of the British advocated the legalization of euthanasia, 13% were against it, and 22% were undecided. At the same time, British Justice Minister Shabana Mahmood opposed the euthanasia Act, saying that the state "should not offer death as a service".
