The Minister of Education, Barbara Nowacka admitted on Tuesday that she was ready to compromise on wellness education. She stated that possible concessions should be “serious and reasonable”. – We are open to dialog with everyone She added.
Health education replaced raising for household life. This year the subject is optional.
During the Tuesday talk on Radio Zet, the head of the MEN stressed, however, that the Ministry of National Education has been in the position from the beginning that wellness education should be mandatory.
When asked if she was willing to make any concessions and, for example, retreat from the sex education part, she replied: I am ready to compromise, which will be serious, reasonable, but will besides take care of children's knowledge. – But in the 21st century, the full cognition of young people is due, and I think that we are able to come up with specified a compromise. She stressed.
She explained that this compromise would mean withdrawing part of the subject matter, i.e. it would be optional, otherwise settled, arranged in 1 block. – We are open to dialog with everyone to introduce this subject – said the head of the Ministry of Education.
When asked if it is possible to compromise with the Polish People's Party, whose president, Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, has doubts about the fresh subject, she replied that 1 of the Deputy Ministers of Education is from the PSL.
She besides explained that the meetings on wellness education would start with "social stakeholders", including SOS coalitions for education and trade unions. In the close future, Nowacka is besides expected to have a conversation with representatives of the Chief Medical Board, who “required this subject as a compulsory subject”.
The fact that wellness education without “ideological elements” wants, among others, president Karol Nawrocki informed “Gazeta Wyborcza”.
Health education is taught in primary schools in grades IV-VIII (one hr a week in each of these classes, with classes in grade VIII only to be carried out in the first semester) and in secondary schools (one hr a week for 2 years).
A parent who does not want his kid to participate in wellness education classes had to resign in writing to the school principal. The underage student had to submit it himself.
