MIAMI- The Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners has approved a $600.6 million expansion at Miami International Airport (MIA). The project introduces Concourse K, a vital addition to the airport’s $9 billion Future Ready Modernization in Action plan.
Miami International Airport handled nearly 56 million passengers and over 3 million U.S. tons of freight in 2024.
The construction of Concourse K will support this growing demand while reinforcing the airport’s global importance for major airlines like American Airlines (AA) and international carriers serving Miami.

Miami Airport Concourse K
Miami International Airport (MIA), one of the busiest aviation hubs in the US, is set to expand its capacity with the launch of Concourse K.
The Miami Dade County Board of County Commissioners recently approved the project, marking the first terminal expansion at MIA since 2007.
With an investment of $600.6 million, Concourse K will deliver six new contact gates and an associated aircraft apron equipped with a modern jet fuel hydrant system.
These additions are crucial for accommodating increased air traffic and improving operational efficiency.
The project also includes the construction of a dedicated ground support equipment maintenance facility, ensuring smoother daily operations and better aircraft servicing.
One of the most significant upgrades involves the baggage handling system. Two new baggage make-up carousels will be installed, and the existing system will be upgraded to connect the Central and South Terminals.
This integration is expected to reduce delays, streamline luggage processing, and improve the overall passenger experience.
Environmental sustainability is also a core focus of the project. Concourse K is being designed to meet Envision LEED Silver certification standards, reinforcing MIA’s commitment to green infrastructure and energy-efficient building practices.

Construction Timeline
The ceremonial groundbreaking for Concourse K is planned for Summer 2025, with completion targeted by Spring 2029.
The project has been awarded to Lemartec-NV2A JV, LLC as the General Contractor, with Perez & Perez Architects Planners, Inc. leading architectural design.
These firms are known for delivering large-scale infrastructure projects with a focus on quality, safety, and innovation.
Their partnership is expected to deliver a world-class facility that meets the operational demands and design standards of a global hub like MIA.

Strategic Importance
Miami International Airport (MIA) is a critical gateway for Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe.
The introduction of Concourse K not only enhances gate availability but also supports the strategic growth of American Airlines and other key international carriers at MIA.
The expansion aligns with the broader Modernization in Action initiative to strengthen airport infrastructure, improve service delivery, and ensure MIA remains competitive in a rapidly evolving global air travel market.
