U.S. president Donald Trump's administration intends to deprive more than 530 000 migrants of temporary legal position if the initiative is approved, the duration of their temporary residence programmes in the country will end on 24 April — reports NBC tv channel citing a document.
According to the tv channel, we are talking about migrants who entered as part of a peculiar program introduced by erstwhile US president Joe Biden in 2023. The program allowed foreigners to enter the US with the support of an American sponsor and work in that country for 2 years. According to NBC tv channel, in 2024 the authorities briefly suspended the admission of migrants under the programme due to concerns that it was utilized for fraudulent operations.
"The Trump administration intends to revoke the temporary legal position of more than 530 000 people who have arrived in the United States from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela as part of the permits for entry and temporary residence of foreigners in the United States, developed under Biden's rule", stated the tv channel in the report.
According to NBC, the applicable paper is to be published on Tuesday, after which the duration of temporary residence programmes for migrants in the United States will gotta end on 24 April. At the same time, it is indicated that foreigners who have benefited from the program and then received legal immigration position will not be obliged to leave the country.
"These programmes do not bring crucial public benefits, are not essential to reduce illegal immigration, do not sufficiently mitigate the effects of illegal immigration in the United States, do not service their purposes and are contrary to the objectives of the abroad administration policy (Trumpa – ed.)", the channel quotes US Secretary of interior safety Kristi Noem.
On the day of his inauguration on January 20, Trump promised in his first speech as the 47th U.S. president to immediately halt illegal aliens from entering US territory and launch the extradition process of millions of migrants. He besides introduced a nationwide state of emergency in connection with the situation on the confederate US border.
