Marcin Drewicz: Warszawskiak Góral answers about the urbanist task “Repolonization of Warsaw” by Sebastian Pitonia. Part 4: 3 Battles and the Valley of the Deceased

The author is the author of the concept of a horse statue of General Tadeusz Jordan Rozwadowski, covered by copyrights and patents, but to find it elsewhere in Warsaw, namely in Krakowskie Przedmieście.

Let us look again at the Spanish Valley of the Deceases expressing THE SAME, i.e. chronologically speaking the second in the 20th century (in its first half) triumph in Europe, in a large war, the forces of the Catholic Contrrevolution over forces of the godless Bolshevik Revolution (anarchist revolution also) – from 1936 to 1939 in Spain, that is, on the Catholic Southwest wing of Europe, but earlier on Polish lands, on the Catholic north-east wing of Europe from 1918 to 1921. To Poles, our Venerable Dear Great-grandfathers were given first in this work; for Orthodox white Russians were not.

In the Valley of the Deceased is emphasized the Lord's Passion and the Last Judgment, especially since it is besides a reasonably circumstantial cemetery for about 10 percent of the victims of the civilian War. Yes, the Spaniards had and have much harder than the Poles, due to the fact that there the fight against Bolshevikism and with anarchism was besides a fratricidal Home War. This is simply a terrible accomplishment of their 19th and early 20th centuries!

There were Polish-speaking communists and their sympathizers, these "champions and Jews", as they were erstwhile called, but organized into the powerful Red Army, the Bolshevik aggressor was, after all, straight geographically external and foreign. Without a abroad stimulus, from the outside, the Polish-speaking “cross-left” meant nothing. This is besides the heritage of the 19th century, but Polish; much to say about it.

On the baroque wall in front of the church in Warsaw's Nowy Rembertów, which is simply a votum for the Miracle of the Vistula (other specified Votum is the church on Kamionek) the names, names and years of life of respective twelve victorious Polish generals from the Bolshevik War of 1918-1920 have already been written. On the Arc de Triomphe discussed here, Józef Piłsudski, with a signature, and yes, that it is “the Chief Leader”, let it be only 1 of these many (or possibly more than a hundred) names of Polish generals, given in equal ranks.

Another “in a series” of general names will be Józef Dowbor-Muśnicki, although he did not participate in the war against Bolsheviks in 1920, but he was the first commander of the Polish Army, due to the fact that as early as January 1918 (!), in Belarus (they were and others in Ukraine) at the head of his First Corps, faced the recently established Red Army Bolsheviks. The Polish-Bolshevik War just then and there began; and let us not be deceived in this substance present by even the deepest of the crowd of ignorant leaders who receive "Professoric Hurra-patriotic authorities".

Let us usage the analogy with the words of Mr Piton. The same, although tempted by the imagination of designing these alleged "organic" skyscrapers, after which setting them somewhere in the Marszałkowska-Jerozolimskie-Emilia Plater-Świętokrzyska quadrilaterally discussed here, refrains from this, explaining that this would divert attention from the meaning of his general concept. We, by analogy, find that the meaning of the concept would besides be demolished by emphasizing the individual and function of Józef Piłsudski. All right, everybody in line!

So – what we repeat – we are curious in the full Polish War of 1918-1921, with its dominant character in the form of this Miracle on the Vistula in 1920.

About 2 100 regiments and another independent units of the Winning Reborn Polish Army, and even before its gathering and setting up besides these Polish Formations (starting in 1914, on various fronts, including French ones!) fought in that groundbreaking war; they all later had their regimental signs, besides signs of any wider than the regiment of formations. And these signs, cast in the bronze, should besides find their place on the walls of the Arc of Triomphe; and this is simply a place from which the thieves of scrap metallic (sic!) will not bargain them.

Signs – of course with brief signatures: name and regiment number. Being a fewer years ago in museums on Jasna Góra, we saw a collection of specified pre-war regimental signs, in metal, colored enamelled originals, on the left pocket of a uniform sweatshirt, donated by a collector from the Polish army, most likely British. Well, since without appropriate – then – signatures, besides without the names of the locality in which the regiment was stationed before the war, the presentation was very illegible for the private visitor.

In 2020, our calls to paint murals in the form of regimental signs, of course importantly enlarged, did not meet with a response.

Fields of battles – here, of course, a catalogue much wider than for the same period expressed on the discs of the Warsaw Unknown Soldier's Sepulchre, and even before the mentioned church in Rembertów. Let us remember, among others, the conflict of Berezin in May 1920 and ask why the Chief Chief prevented the triumph there. The miracle over Berezin did not happen until that miracle over hundreds of kilometers to the west of Vistula, in a water catchment of another sea (sic!). And so on.

On the walls of this Arch should besides be found whether it is forged in stone, or whether it is lane in bronze carefully selected, due to the fact that besides short quotes from the basic literature of the object. At the moment, we are reminded of: “The Miracle on the Vistula” by Franciszek Adam Arciszewski, “The Front of Lithuania-Belaruski” by Stanisław Szeptycki, “The Last Horse Campaign” by Kornel Krzeczunowicz, “The Scouts in the Battles” by Władysław Nekrasz (Krzyż Harcerski, Sokół, but besides the Cross of Dowbor, and respective another signs of wider gatherings should be highlighted on the walls of the Łuku, e.g. in a peculiar position or larger than another sizes), from the beletristy of course “The Free Left” by Józef Mackiewicz, “In the Field” by Stanisław Rembek and “This Summer. The subject of the message of the aforementioned commemorative chapel made in this very place, i.e. in front of the Palace of Culture, the papal Broadcasting of Missionaries from 1987 with the message of this close monument of Miracle on the Vistula River. This Cross on the monument of 1920 could be modeled on that white altar Cross from 1987.

This would be in line with the healthy lechicism shown by Sebastian Pitonia in the above-mentioned film; that we are digesting his words: “They are us godless communism and the Bolshevik invasion, and we from this communism and despite communism bring into the wide planet a host of Roman Catholic missionaries, who shortly besides reached the areas of the erstwhile russian Union” (and previously there were secret Roman Catholic missionaries, but that is another story).

An aggressor in the days of the Piast imperial, later the Prussian post-Crescent and this Swedish – they all fall under the word "unified forces of Europe", and the last 2 of the mentioned forces simply heretical. But besides among Poles in early times heresies spread. Isn't it? So he can skip this complex subject, as Sebastian Piton does.

Almost all fields of centuries-old Polish battles with forces of aggressive Islam are now outside the state area of the present Polish area – as we note here only for order. And – look at you – no "IPNs" there, as far as we know, have moved so far to make excavations and exhumations in any of these places, even in specified marked large buoys of Chocimi. Did individual yet set up a Latin cross next to the castle? In view of these Roman Catholic Lachs who died there for religion and Homeland. But for centuries Poles besides went south, to Hungary's brotherly, to the way of Zawisza the Black and Warneńczyk, and earlier to the way of the Polish princess and the Wawel-bred St. King Władysław (Szent László) to defend Christianity.

Let's keep moving. The Crimean Cossack against Poland and Catholicism fulfilled the function of not allies, but the function of the muslim Tatars and Turks. It is known that the past of these three, the remainder of the above mentioned ones, and many another Polish battles, and even more the sequences of events leading to them, was different, that thus these grand victories of our Holy Mass. The Ancestors applied not from the top to the surest, but to the limits of endurance, the last forces, over the mightier and certain adversary. And that is what must be expressed in sculptural compositions. Our forefathers fought for Christ (Lat. pro Christo) and so prevailed, and Our woman watched over them. specified a message appears from the urban and sculptural composition discussed here.

“The soldier is walking through the forest, dying with hunger sometimes...”. The Polish soldier-soldier is already battered, controlled, wounded, tired and hungry, there are no more strengths to fight, just as it happened to these heroes called the Cursed Soldiers today. He even looks out of the last emotion as he is pounding on him and on his fewer companions this imaginary 1 from the steppes of Eurasia proverbial " moth" of Tatar and/or Cossack (in the newer times of Bolshevik), and he cannot and does not even want to withdraw. Our brothers in the religion of the Spanish have, among others, the inactive remembered Miracle in Empel from 1585 (this town is present in the Netherlands). We Poles besides have akin ones.

The attacks on the valley repeated in fresh times are, among others, inactive missed, due to the fact that more than the political message of the times in which it was arranged, it simply expresses the universal spiritual message – Roman Catholic. It is easier for the aggressors to attack this or any another political option, but the Holy religion of Christ itself is more difficult. Another thing is that in this case we are dealing with the message of politics consciously and intentionally subjected to the eternal teaching of the Holy Church.

Speaking of "national style", it is the full Valley, along with the Way of the Cross on the mountains, with the monastery oo. Benedictine and hospedery (a hostess, a large lodge) in all item of inactive and moving equipment refers to the rich architectural and artistic traditions of the locals – Spanish. Let us take the example of the best, nurturing atolls rich thousands of years of own traditions and creatively developing them.

Truly, the appropriate plan of these 3 conflict memorials (and many another elements contained in Sebastian Pitonia's concept) is rather a challenge, both in the architectural (everything) and in the sculptural (figure). We repeat, with all due respect to the Author (both Authors), that figures of 3 conflict monuments, specified as those presented in the above-mentioned film, should not be implemented in our opinion – this inactive needs to be considered. On the another hand, all 3 coils-hulls which form the basis for these figures are already closer to this feasible.

In the film, there are besides another memorials, smaller ones, but for deficiency of information about them we do not talk here.

Despite our various reservations here, we stay convinced that we are besides convinced that we are in the same position as Mr. Sebastian Pitoń is aiming for the goal of looking at the projects referred to here “Poland could feel pride in being Polish” and “a tourist of respect for a powerful Polish nation” (quote from the film).

But let us remember that there are different kinds of things in this world. Both of these functions, to their own and to strangers, were fulfilled for decades by the aforementioned Spanish Valley of the Deceased. But – as we have already mentioned – for years it has been heard that not even strangers, but a large part of the Spaniards themselves present want to simply... smash (sic!). And be smart here... And do something here for your...

At the end of this part of our speech – about the song. There are many Warsaw songs and about Warsaw, newer and earlier. Staropolska is besides said to be Warsaw. However, the Pitonians – the features of the generation have most likely prevailed here – chose for the sound illustration of the movie "Nadwiślański Świt" ("The Dream of Warsaw") by Czesław Niemen, as far as we know, for any time – but only for any time! – besides sung at matches by Warsaw’s “Legia” fans.

Let it be, for the sake of calming down that "de gustibus non disputandum", but in our opinion it is simply a choice... missed. What would we choose? There are possibilities. However, we belong to people who know besides well what "in reality" looks like (and sounds!) in Warsaw, this virtually "superwislański świat", at any time of the year, earlier and today. And here erstwhile we hear these, after all, faithfully and in good religion by today's young performer played – for the apology – completely a-melodic and a-rhythmic moaning, grunting and shouting of St Niemen-Wydrzycki (let the earth be light to him) this, dalibog, but with the dawn of any, so with this Nadwiślany sounds do not match us at all. Sorry!
