Confederate press conference with Members Karina Bosak and Michał Wawer and Małgorzata Tylus, 12 September 2024.
Karina Bosak:
– present will be the first reading of a task extending maternity leave for premature mothers. This task is the consequence of the work of the Ochonatal Care Team, which first gathered in late January on this topic.
We've just organised a public consultation with doctors, with midwives, with parents, with lawyers. We wanted to work out the most optimal solutions to respond to this problem. Unfortunately, it is now that this maternity leave for children who are severely sick and those who are prematurely born, very early erstwhile parents gotta spend that time in a hospital, many weeks, even many months, is simply a lost time. And we know it's priceless. Priceless for a kid and priceless for parents. due to his sense of security, his healthy improvement and relationship.
According to our project, which we will present today, we want to extend maternity leave to premature parents up to 24 weeks in specified utmost cases – and that is why we will defend these parents and those children who are most affected by our system, due to the fact that our current strategy provides for systemic injustice towards those parents we want to remove, we want to compensate them for the failure of that time. This leave will besides be possible for the father, not only the mother, but besides the unused 1 for the father.
These are simple, clear regulations, and we hope that they will be adopted. Over many erstwhile tenure there has been no political will to respond to this problem, which was frequently raised by the early parents' communities. We have dealt with this problem and we hope that at this point, this problem will yet be resolved.
Michał Wawer:
– The current ruling coalition has come to power, among others, under the slogans of women's rights and under the slogans of combating the demographic crisis. In these last 9-10 months, we've already seen how this is going to work.
Women's rights are to be secured through unrestricted access to abortion. It's illegal. Introduced in the back door, by introducing below the legal level, at the level of instructions issued by the Minister to doctors. Introduction of a non-existent premise of alleged intellectual health.
And the fight against the demographic crisis is to destruct maternity wards. due to the fact that this is the kind of task that we late saw issued by the National wellness Fund to introduce the 400 birth criteria per year, below which maternity wards that do not meet it are to be liquidated. And this in practice means that if this task was adopted, it would see the light of day, then 1 3rd of the births in Poland would be eliminated. In any voivodships, as I represent the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, this would mean the liquidation of most maternity wards in the voivodship!
We see in these examples the hypocrisy of the current ruling team. You can't fight for women's rights that way. This is no way to fight the demographic crisis. This cannot be due to the fact that we are giving the right to freely kill children and that we are hindering access to wellness protection, and at the same time due to the fact that politicians of these ruling formations carry on banners the hypocritical slogan of fighting for women's rights, fighting against the demographic crisis.
As a Confederate, we propose turning to the exact opposite! Towards a fair approach to life, a fair approach to health, towards an integral, broadly understood pro-life movement, a life attitude, that is, not only opposition to abortion, but besides a fight to guarantee that children have adequate wellness care; a fight to guarantee that women do not gotta worry about having an hour's journey to the nearest hospital; so that they do not gotta worry about not getting adequate, satisfactory medical care before birth, during childbirth and after birth. This is what we are fighting for as Confederate MPs in the perinatal care team.
This draft bill, which will be presented present by Mr Karina Bosak from the Sejm's mouthpiece, is 1 of the many steps that we intend to take to fight for precisely this broadly understood attitude of the Polish state towards life. We hope that a majority around this task will be built, that the Members of the remaining parties over political divisions will support this project, which is uncontroversial. It does not contain any solutions that any organization would criticise in the past.
We hope that they will besides sign up for our team, so that we can work together in the future on further legislative solutions and that we can intervene together besides in cases where the law is broken or in cases where patients' rights, rights of mothers are – whether by officials or by doctors or by hospitals – violated. We are besides here in this Sejm to support Polish women in specified situations, to support mothers.
