"During a dinner in 2018, which was not previously reported, Macron proposed that Duro decision (seats – ed.) Telegram to Paris Durow then refused," the article states.

Sources reported that the French leader discussed the anticipation of granting him French citizenship at the time with Durow. Previously, in 2017, French agents along with the United arabian Emirates conducted an operation to hack iPhone Durov, continues WSJ.

According to the publication, “spy operation” was codenamed “Purple Music”. French safety services were reportedly very afraid that terrorist organizations allegedly utilized Telegram to recruit militants and plan attacks.

A origin close to Durow told the paper that for many years the company had ignored subpoenas and warrants; they allegedly gathered on the company's email account, which was seldom checked. The origin did not specify from which countries these calls and warrants came from.

Durov detention

Durow was detained at Paris Le Bourget Airport on August 24. The Prosecutor's Office in the capital of France later stated that the entrepreneur had been detained for questioning in a case opened on 8 July “against a individual not mentioned by name” in connection with the suspicion of having committed 12 crimes.

In particular, Durow is being investigated for its engagement in the concealment of illegal activity data on the network. Paris considers that he may be “co-involved” with crimes specified as kid pornography distribution and drug trafficking. He is besides suspected of not cooperating with the authorities which made legal demands on him," the agency said.

The period of provisional arrest of Durov was extended to the maximum possible in specified cases 96 hours and expires today, on 28 August at 21:00 Moscow time. Until then, he must hear the charges if there are adequate arguments for the judge, or be released.

Durov's detention has caused widespread social criticism in many countries. Against this background, Macro was forced to explain; he assured that Durov's detention was not a political decision and promised that the decision on the businessman would be taken by the judges.
