FRANKFURT- Lufthansa (LH) began operating the Airbus A350 from Frankfurt (FRA) to several international destinations with the launch of the summer flight schedule.
Four of these advanced aircraft are currently in service from Frankfurt, with two additional planes scheduled to join the fleet in May and July.

Lufthansa A350 from Frankfurt
Since March 30, the aircraft have been flying routes to Seoul and Shanghai, with service to Denver beginning May 1 and Seattle starting July 1, 2025.
Lufthansa Airlines CEO Jens Ritter explained that the temporary A350 deployment addresses a gap caused by delayed aircraft deliveries. “Lufthansa’s state-of-the-art Airbus aircraft offer an improved travel experience from Frankfurt until new long-haul aircraft are delivered,” Ritter said.
He noted that Lufthansa anticipates its largest fleet renewal in company history over the next 36 months, with 61 new aircraft expected to join the fleet by the end of 2027—averaging one new aircraft every two weeks.
The A350-900 demonstrates significant environmental advantages, consuming only about 2.5 liters of kerosene per passenger per 100 kilometers flown. This efficiency reduces CO2 emissions by up to 30 percent compared to previous models, while also operating with substantially reduced noise levels.
Lufthansa currently operates 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft from Munich and expects to add 14 more of this model to its fleet by 2029.
The A350 aircraft featuring the new Allegris cabin will be operated exclusively from the Munich hub.

ITA Airways Integration
The integration of ITA Airways (AZ) into the Lufthansa Group reached a significant milestone on March 30, 2025, with the start of the 2025 summer flight schedule. All ITA Airways flights at Frankfurt and Munich airports now operate from Lufthansa Group terminals, bringing all the Group’s airlines “under one roof” at every hub and substantially reducing passenger transfer times.
The overnight transition included relocating ITA Airways’ entire handling operation, encompassing check-in, gates, service desks, and baggage reclaim. In Frankfurt, ITA Airways moved from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1, which houses the Lufthansa Group.
By operating from gate areas A and B, passengers now benefit from significantly shorter walking distances and transfer times. Terminal 1 also provides quick access to the Deutsche Bahn long-distance train station with its ICE high-speed connections.
In Munich, ITA Airways relocated from Terminal 1 to the Skytrax five-star rated Terminal 2 and its satellite, operated jointly by Lufthansa and Munich Airport. All Lufthansa Group airlines already operate under one roof at the Group’s other hubs in Brussels, Rome, Vienna, and Zurich, where seamless transfers between carriers like SWISS and ITA Airways were previously established.

Executive Remarks
Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer for Lufthansa Group, emphasized the importance of this transition: “This move is an important milestone in the integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group. Our customers will be able to transfer faster and more comfortably thanks to shorter distances and will have more comfort throughout their entire journey. This also includes the shared use of lounges.”
Vranckx added that the integration gives ITA Airways passengers access to the Lufthansa Group’s premium airlines and worldwide route network while providing more direct access to Italian destinations. “In just two months, we have succeeded in offering our passengers a seamless premium travel experience,” he stated.
This also marks the launch of joint codeshare flights between ITA Airways and Lufthansa Group Airlines, which have been available for booking for several weeks. The aligned and connected route networks now offer over 100 new codeshare connections within Europe operated by both carriers.
Lufthansa Group passengers can now reach additional Italian airports including Alghero, Lampedusa, Pantelleria, and Reggio Calabria through codesharing with ITA Airways. The codeshare partnership also enables Lufthansa passengers to travel to Tripoli, Libya again. More than 50,000 combination tickets were sold in the first three weeks alone.
Effective immediately, ITA Airways passengers can access approximately 130 Lufthansa Group and partner lounges worldwide, while Lufthansa Group passengers gain entry to ITA Airways lounges.
Frequent Flyers have enjoyed expanded benefits since February 3, 2025, with Miles & More members able to earn and redeem miles and status points on all ITA Airways flights. Similarly, Volare customers can earn and redeem points when flying with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines.
