Building disaster in a tenement home above a shield digging a diameter tunnel in Lodz. The building on 1 May 23 collapsed floor/floor, the street is closed.
When, respective weeks ago, together with the residents of Stary Polesia, we alerted the Łódź City Office before possible problems we received... quite a few promises, small specifics. Officials and city authorities seemed not to take matters seriously. They thought it was a PKP investment, so the city had nothing to do with it. Building insurance? The foster homes? Keeping track of deadlines? Co-operation with an investor? gathering with residents? Well, why bother?
They did not consider a situation or a variant in which something would happen to urban properties. If this were to happen... “surely the investor has insurance”.
You read well. They were not even 100% certain that specified insurance was and what the consequence is! The City Office of Łódź requested the content of the insurance agreement only after our conference with residents and a number of meetings.
The effect of ignorance? A disaster where no 1 was hurt.
What's next? No 1 knows. The procedures will most likely be written on the knee in the authoritative offices at Piotrkowska 104. Yeah, but it's Monday, and the weekend's yet coming. 'Cause you gotta sit down and... Unless, of course, the worker will be on leave, due to the fact that then the substance will should be moved.
I will repeat what I wrote a long time ago: could we at least be wise before INJURY and not after it?!
