Two kayakers off the coast of Chile survived erstwhile a whale approached them. 1 of them fell into a humpback's mouth, but the animal let him go. The full event was captured by a second kayaker.
Two kayakers from Venezuela, 24-year-old Adrian Simancas and his father Dell, sailed in the vicinity of the Chilean lighthouse San Isidoro in the Magellana Strait erstwhile a humpback emerged above the surface of the water.
The animal caught Adrian's canoe in his mouth, plunged for a fewer seconds, then released the prey slowly. The kayaker thought the whale ate him.
The father of a man whose canoe was only a fewer meters distant recorded the full event. On the video, you can hear him shouting to his son, "Be cool, be cool, hang on."
- I'm sorry. I thought I was dead. I thought he ate me and swallowed me," said Adrian to the AP agency. He added that he was not afraid until he was back on the surface of the water.
Within seconds, Adrian managed to get to his father, and both of them safely, without suffering any damage, returned to shore.
The humpbacks seldom attack people. May weigh 36 tonnes
In Chile’s waters, whale attacks on humans are highly rare, whereas deaths of these animals are expanding after a collision with commercial ships. In the last decade, whales have besides become a problem.
In 2021, American diver Michael Packard was found in the humpback mouth for 40 seconds. As a consequence of the incidental that occurred off the coast of Massachusetts, only his knee sprained.
The humpbacks can measurement 15 meters and weigh 36 tons. Their global population is estimated at 60,000.
