Seven creators and thinkers published a letter in defence of Fr Michał Olszewski. Keeping a priest in custody reminds of communist practices, they stated. Jerzy Kalina, Antoni Libera, Lech Majewski, Andrzej Nowak, Jan Polkowski, Wawrzyniec Rymkiewicz and Bronisław Wildstein signed the letter.

Signatories indicated that keeping people in prison before a verdict of guilt could only be applied if a trial could not be conducted. However, in the case of Fr Michał Olszewski and 2 officials of the Ministry of Justice, this is not the case. "The treatment of this substance as a dangerous crime amazes all conscious and honest man," it says. The signatories called for immediate release from the detention of both the priest and 2 ministerial officials.

The letter was originally published on the portal wpolityka.pl.

LIST OF SEVEN

Since Fr Michał Olszewski and 2 MS officials were arrested, more than six months have passed. Keeping people in prison from being guilty is an exceptional measurement and is only applicable in the event that a trial cannot be carried out otherwise. Meanwhile, Fr Olszewski is suspected that his foundation "did not meet the conditions of the competition organized by MS" in the times of Z. Ziobra, and the officials said that the competition was carried out as if defective.

To treat this case as a dangerous crime amazes all conscious and honest man. After all, whether a given entity is or is not admitted to the competition depends on the officials, and their decision by nature is arbitrary, which we have frequently seen, especially recently.

For the first 60 hours after the arrest of Fr Olszewski and the arrested officials with him were deliberately tormented and humiliated, and in a way that is considered by global conventions as torture. Their defenders inactive don't have access to trial work. The current Minister of Justice, Adam Bodnar, erstwhile he was a spokesperson for civilian rights, resented the usage of alleged handcuffs linked to the child's murderer. present he is not disturbed by specified harassment against Fr Olszewski and ministerial officials.

Regardless of the actions of the prosecution and the prison service, a run of slander is organised against the detainees. They are portrayed as corrupt persons, although in the course of the investigation there was not even a charge of misappropriating material advantages, not to mention evidence. The D.A.'s office speaks of “a membership of a criminal group” as a mockery. However, there is no word anywhere that the foundation of Fr Olszewski built a centre for victims of crime.

All these actions, and above all, the extension of 3 undefeated persons are clearly politically motivated. This is an outrage, regardless of specified beliefs or another beliefs, about the merits of the case. It resembles communist practices of criminalizing political opponents and forcing evidence on them.

We appeal to fellow citizens to jointly protest against this legal scandal, which reproaches not only the existing codes but besides the standards of social life, and whose victims are Polish citizens without any evidence of guilt.

We request immediate release from the detention of Fr Olszewski and 2 ministerial officials. 1 cannot stand by and watch people be tormented in front of us without proven guilt and destroyed in an irreversible way their lives.
