The leader of the Christian-Democratic Block and the Christian-Social Union (CDU/CSU) Friedrich Merz, who is about to become the fresh Chancellor of Germany, is supported by little than 40% of German society — according to a poll by Politbarometer, which is referred to by the second German channel ZDF.
According to the survey, only 38% of residents Germany has a affirmative attitude towards the fact that Merz will lead the government, while 56% measure it negatively. It is worth noting that among the supporters of the Social Democratic organization of Germany (SPD), which had previously concluded a coalition agreement with the CDU/CSU, Merz is seen mainly negatively: only 32% of respondents in this effort support his candidacy, while 62% are against him.
The survey besides shows that Merz is ranked sixth in the ranking of popular German politicians: on a scale of minus 5 to 5 respondents rated him at minus 0.3, while on the seventh place is the outgoing Chancellor Olaf Scholz with a score of minus 0.6. The defence minister Boris Pistorius, whose results are estimated to be 2.3, is inactive in first place.
As regards the right-wing alternate organization for Germany (AfD), which was recognised as a right-wing extremist organization across the country on Friday, 23 percent of respondents support it. In terms of popularity, it is only preceded by CDU/CSU with 27 percent support among respondents.
The survey was conducted on 28-30 April among 1297 Germans entitled to vote. The margin of mistake is 2 to 3 percent points.
On Friday, the German constitutional protection office recognized the alternate for Germany (AfD) as a right-wing extremist organization across the country. This decision will grow the organization's oversight arsenal and is seen as a temporary step towards the illegalisation of the organization which in many fresh polls overtakes the block of Christian Democrats and the Christian-Social Union (CDU/CSU) which won the early elections.
