Kraków, 30.04.2025 – The territory Court for Kraków-Podgórze applied a three-month interim arrest against a 35-year-old Prison Service officer who was suspected of killing a doctor at the University Hospital. The case shook Krakow and the full country.
Violent attack at the hospital
On Tuesday, a man entered the orthopedic office and attacked a doctor with a knife. Despite immediate medical assistance, the victim died. The fishy besides attempted to attack the nurse, but there was no serious injury to her health.

On Wednesday, the D.A.'s office charged a 35-year-old with execution and attempted to violate body function. The man did not plead guilty.
"The court applied provisional detention for a period of 3 months, assuming a advanced likelihood of the fishy committing the alleged acts, and pointing to the fear of harassment, fear of escape or concealment and threatening severe punishment" – said justice Maciej Czajka, spokesperson for the Krakow territory Court of Criminal Affairs.
Psychiatric care for a suspect
The court recommended that a man be placed under psychiatric care while in custody.
“This is the decision of the court to be placed under psychiatric care... I do not know whether this was the consequence of the suspect's own motion, the defender, or whether the court of its own motion decided that due to the evidence" added the spokesman.
Details of the investigation
Prosecutor Marta Łuczyńska of the Kraków-Podgórze territory Attorney's Office confirmed that the court had accepted the prosecution's motion. The fishy answered the questions during the gathering while maintaining his earlier explanations.
"As for the content of the explanations, I cannot betray their content due to the ongoing investigation" stressed the prosecutor.
Results of autopsy
The investigation into the execution is conducted by the Kraków-Podgórze territory Attorney's Office. The autopsy showed that the doctor had suffered a number of injuries, mostly around the heart and liver, any were as deep as 16 cm.
Dismission of the Chief of Prison Service
Due to the tragedy, Prime Minister Donald Tusk dismissed Colonel Andrzej Pecka from his post as manager General of the Prison Service. The decision was made at the request of Justice Minister Adam Bodnar.
