Kraków extends consultations of the Clean Transport Zone. Officials are counting on residents to change their minds?

Open stages of public consultation of the draft solutions for the introduction of the Clean Transport region in Krakow showed 1 thing – residents do not want the zone. However, officials decided to extend the consultations for the holiday-new year period. What are they counting on?

What's the office asking?

These are six questions, including the proposal to modify the project, about areas of exclusion from the SCT – in the context of possible extensions – “If you think this area is simply a good proposal, but in your opinion there are also crucial places that should be available to everyone here”.

There is besides a request for mention to “requirements concerning the year of production or the Euro emanation standard that were proposed for the fresh version of the SCT in Krakow” and for an assessment of 5 years of exclusion from the SCT of residents of Krakow.

There was besides a question of assessing the thought of imposing entry fees for vehicles not complying with the region requirements and of supplementing the list of vehicles excluded from the SCT.

All these questions were answered by officials – in the vote cited.

Consultation... when?

According to the Public Transport Board, “Interested persons until 10 January 2025 (Friday) will be able to submit their comments on the project. The extension of the consultation process is intended to give residents and residents additional time to read the paper and express their opinion."

What, where, when?!

As part of the extended consultation process, the residents afraid will be able to:

  • Fill new electronic survey concerning the task — link to survey.
  • Take part in an open consultation gathering to be held 9 January 2025 (Thursday), at 5 p.m., in the combined halls of Lea and Kupecka UMK, at All Saints 3-4.
  • Take advantage of the telephone call, which will take place on 2 January, from 14:00 to 16:00, at +48 12 616 86 35.

Consultations proceed until 10.01.2025 (Friday) – excluding 4, 5 and 6 January.

Key question - yes or no?

In view of the hardness of officials who accept 1 solution – the SCT, there was a bottom-up consultation initiative in which citizens decided not to be afraid to ask the basic question: Do you want the SCT in Krakow? Ankieta was prepared by the “Kraków for drivers” committee. Result? About 1,400 surveyed 90% of them replied that they did not want the SCT.

The voters besides declared how they utilized their cars: 39 percent of those surveyed – close to the centre, 30 percent – outside the centre, 14 – on the outskirts of the city, 13 – in the center, 4 – distant from the city.
