Janusz Korwin-Mikke confirmed on September 19 that he had been in Moscow 2 days earlier, precisely on the 87th anniversary of russian aggression against Poland. The erstwhile MP and Euro MP called the Russian capital "a truly good city". For Poland, historical memory and opposition to disregard of the threat from Russia are at stake.

Politician confirmed his journey to Russia

Janusz Korwin-Mikke published a photograph with greetings from Moscow on September 17. There were voices online that the photograph could be old or generated utilizing artificial intelligence. 2 days later, the politician replied that he was actually in the Russian capital and returned on 18 September. He added that Moscow is "a truly good city".

The look of the city is not a matter. Date, individual and political context are important. On September 17, Poland celebrated the 87th anniversary of the russian assault. That day The Red Army crossed the borders of the Republic in 1939, implementing the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact. The military was followed by repression, deportations and crimes.

Date to be kept from history

Korwin-Mikke has the right to travel and make his own grades. However, the public is liable for the importance of their gestures. Greetings from Moscow on 17 September are not an innocent vacation postcard. In Polish memory, this date means to strike the second occupier into a country already fighting Germany.

The Ministry of abroad Affairs advises against all trips to Russia. Minister Radosław Sikorski recalled this. According to Korwin-Mikke's account, his stay lasted for 2 days, and much of that time he spent in Moscow hospitals after wellness problems. This does not change the assessment of the public message, which placed an aesthetic delight over the city alongside 1 of the most painful dates of Polish history.

National diary described earlier the first entry of Korwin-Mikke from Moscowwhen the authenticity of the photograph was contested. Now the politician himself confirmed the journey. The dispute no longer concerns the method origin of the photo, but the political judgement of the author.

National realism is not about leniency of Moscow

The right should look at Russia without any illusions. Realism does not mean admiration over the capital of the state, which is at war in Ukraine, threatens Poland and consistently falsifies the past of its own crimes. In fresh days Russian MFA again denied the nature of the aggression on September 17. Poland must respond to specified a message with memory, strength of the state and sober politics.

Korwin-Mikke has been presenting any of the Russian activities for years in a way that raises opposition besides on the right. His earlier justification for Russia shows that the current motion is hard to treat as a disconnected episode. This does not give emergence to the attribution of ulterior motives. An assessment of public words and their effects is sufficient.

The stakes for Poles are specific. The country, which allows to blur the meaning of September 17, weakens its opposition to Russian narrative. Freedom of speech can be appreciated and at the same time firmly said: political provocation on the anniversary of the russian assault does not service the Polish national interest.
