The fight against smog takes place in Polish cities. In consequence to this situation, many local authorities have made strict regulations that order residents to exchange outdated and non-organic Cinderellas. diary ‘legartis.plHe warns that those who ignored this task now gotta face advanced financial consequences, and that the amount of penalties may scope up to PLN 5 000.

Since January of this year, Mazowsz, for example, has been prohibited from utilizing alleged Cinderellas, i.e. classless boilers (i.e. boilers with a class lower than 3 or those that do not have rated plates or class information in the boiler documentation). On the another hand, as of 1 October in Warsaw, coal was banned in home furnaces. These regulatory changes aim to reduce emissions of harmful substances and improve air quality, but besides require cooperation and engagement from residents.

From now on, you can get punishment for the old oven.

For the usage of Cinderellas there is simply a punishment in the form of a mandate of 500 PLN to a fine of up to 5000 PLN. In addition, for coal burning, the City defender may impose a mandate of up to PLN 500.

In the capital, in buildings which are part of the municipal resources of Warsaw, there are inactive about 250 Cinderellas, which should actually cease to function from the beginning of this year.

Jakub Leduchowski, deputy spokesperson for the Capital City Hall, explained that the process of exchanging these 250 Cinderellas requires additional actions, frequently arrangements and increased financial expenditure, resulting in delays in the completion of the work.

According to the Central registry of Buildings Emissions in Poland, a full of 3 million furnaces are needed, which do not meet any heating standards. This is simply a immense challenge that will require considerable efforts, both financially and organizationally.

Mandatory exchange of heating

By the end of 2023, inhabitants of respective voivodships – Kujawy-pomorskie, Lublin, Wielkopolska and Zachodniopomorskie – must decide to exchange furnaces. That means if they haven't done it yet, time goes by very quickly. People surviving in Lower Silesian have until July 2024 to exchange furnaces without appropriate heating class. People from the Pomeranian Voivodeship have until September 2024, and residents of Lubuskie have the most time – until January 2027.

However, it is crucial that ignoring these rules may consequence in advanced penalties and legal and judicial consequences. Controls may lead to severe consequences for those who neglect to comply with the requirements for the exchange of furnaces.
