Communication from the FSSPX General home on Bishops' Consecration
"On 2 February 2026, on the Day of the Purge of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Fr Davide Pagliani, Rector Major of the Priesthood of St. Pius X, during the ceremony of the meadow which he presided at the global Seminary of the Holy Priest of Ars in Flavigny-sur-Ozerain in France, publically announced his decision to entrust to bishops Brotherhood to make fresh bishops' consecrations on 1 July of this year.
In August last year, Rev. Pagliani asked for an audience with the Holy Father, expressing his want to son-in-law to present to him the current situation of the Priesthood of St. Pius X. In the next letter, he openly raised the request to guarantee the continuation of the ministry of the Bishops of the Brotherhood, who have been roaming the planet for nearly forty years, responding to the call of many faithful bound to the Tradition of the Church and desiring that the sacraments of priesthood and confirmation should be given for the sake of their souls.
After a longer consideration of this issue in prayer, and besides after receiving a letter from the Holy See in fresh days, which in no way responds to our requests, Fr Pagliarani, on the basis of the unanimous position of his Council, considers that the nonsubjective condition of the higher necessity of souls requires specified a decision.
The words he wrote on 21 November 2024 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the historical declaration by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre present give more than always his thoughts and intentions:
“Only in the Church of all time and in its unchanging Tradition do we find a warrant of continuity in the Truth, preaching it, and serving it further. [...]
The Brotherhood [St. Pius X] is not primarily seeking its own survival: its main intent is the welfare of the universal Church – and for this reason it is the par excellence of the Church, which with exceptional freedom and strength duly responds to the needs of our unprecedented tragic times.
This only goal remains our goal today, as it was 50 years ago: Therefore, without rebellion, bitterness or resentment, we proceed our work of the priestly formation in the light of the eternal Magisterium, convinced that we cannot give more favour to the Catholic Church, the Pope and future generations (Rev Marcel Lefebvre, Declaration of 21 November 1974)".
In the coming days, the Rector Major will further explain the current situation and the decision taken.
Nos cum Prole pi benedicat Virgo Maria!
May the Blessed Virgin Mary and her kid bless us.
