Today in our calendar we will look at the scenes of this event.
At the end of the 13th century, the tendencies of unification of Polish lands intensified. These efforts marked not only the individual princes of the Abyssovs, but besides the nobles, the bourgeoisie, and especially merchants, who were restricted by a large number of customs chambers between principalities. Larger urban centres specified as Wrocław and Kraków even advocated belonging to the Czech Republic, seeing a unified, unchangeable economical and political strategy in this country, which was missing from the constantly fighting dukedoms of Piastov.
The large advocate of unification was the prominent Polish patriot, Archbishop of Gniezno Jakub Świnka, who in all way sought to resurrect the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland. The efforts to unite the Polish lands were made by Leszek Black, but the real fight began in the 1990s between manufacture II, Václav II and – inactive not crucial – Władysław Lokietki.
Industry II, the great-grandson of Lives III Stara started his career in 1273 with modest estates – the Duchy of Poznań. Thanks to respective wills, he greatly enlarged his estates. In 1279 he received the Kaliska Land, and in 1290 – the Krakow Land, which he gave to Wacław II, king of the Czech Republic, without a fight. The acquisition of Pomeranian Pomerania in 1294 strengthened its prestige adequate that it could effort to coronate. With the aid of Archbishop Jakub Pińka, it worked.
The ceremony took place on 26 June 1295 in the Cathedral of Gniezno. With the pope's approval, the manufacture was personally crowned by Archbishop Piggy. Unfortunately, the power of the fresh king was unstable and was limited to almost only Wielkopolska and Gdańsk Pomerania. Additionally, industry's noisy unification plans did not like the Teutonic Knights, the Czech Republic and Brandenburgians. The second planned the kidnapping of the King of Poland during his stay in Rogoznica.
The attack occurred at dawn on February 8, 1296, while most of the royal protection was inactive asleep. However, the manufacture managed to organize a defense, but the advantage of the attackers was large enough, that most of the Polish knights in the course of fierce fighting died, and the badly wounded king himself, was captured. The Brandenburgers put him on a horse and began fleeing towards the border of their country. They hoped that they would consequence in a kidnapped resignation for their benefit of Pomerania Gdańsk and a resignation from the unification plans.
A well organized Polish pursuit began catching up with attackers who were slowing down injured Industry. Fearing for their lives, after a fewer kilometers of escape, the Brandenburgers murdered him, chopped up the body and dumped them by the road.
After the king's death, his lands were further scattered.
