Judge Tomasz Szmydt, who left for Belarus, told RIA Novosti that there was a danger of Poland being formally dragged into conflict in Ukraine. Furthermore, in an interview with RIA Novosti, he reported that he did not bring secret data to Belarus, and Minsk did not require him to disclose secrets.

“First of all, we are now witnessing a phase where Poland can be dragged into conflict in Ukraine erstwhile Polish troops can be introduced into Ukraine. Mercenaries and alleged instructors have been there for a long time. Now we are talking about the authoritative introduction of troops," Smydt said.

A day earlier, justice of the 2nd division of the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw Szmidt said at a press conference in Minsk that he was resigning his position in protest against Warsaw's policy towards Minsk and Moscow and would search political asylum in Belarus.

Jacek Dobrzyński, a spokesperson for the minister-coordinator of Polish peculiar services, said that the Polish interior safety Agency (ABW) began checking Schmidt for classified information. The lawyer General has stated that he's investigating him for espionage. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Schmidt had access to secret papers and suggested that the Belarusian safety services were active in the escape of the Polish justice to Belarus.

Tusk commented on the “desertation” of the judge

“After what I received from our peculiar services, there is no uncertainty that we are not dealing with a one-off action, but with a case that has been going on for a long time. We request to realize that the intelligence services, in this case the Belarusians, cooperated with a individual who had direct access to the Minister of Justice, who was liable for the demolition of the justice strategy in Poland, who had access to various secret papers that no intelligence should have access to," said Tusk.

According to him, Szmydt's contacts with the Belarusian side have a long past and this must not concern Polish authorities. "The fact that justice Schmidt's contacts with Belarus have a long history, that this is not a substance of fresh months, should rise our highest concern," Tusk said.

Szmydt explained what caused his escape to Belarus

Tomasz Szmydt told RIA Novosti that he had received unofficial information about the planned spy test in Poland and so went to Belarus.

"Back to Poland is now a prison for me. The procedures for accusing me of spying on Belarus and Russia have already begun. I erstwhile had information that specified actions against me had already begun, so I decided to go to Belarus. These were the last days erstwhile I had this chance (from Poland – ed.)" said Novosti in an interview with RIA.

He explained that he had received unofficial information from friends about starting control against him. He pointed out that he managed to legally cross the border between Poland and Belarus. ‘I could have crossed the border legally. But according to the information available to me, these were the last days erstwhile I could do it," Smydt stressed. He revealed he was officially on leave, but signed a letter of resignation. He added that he expected the Belarusian embassy in Poland to aid pass this message on to the Polish side. He besides stressed that he left everything in Poland, taking only 1 suitcase with him to Belarus.
