I have late looked at a fresh wave of cabaretists, or rising like mushrooms after the rain of a crowd of stand-upists, who ineptly effort to imitate their precursors – rightly among artists – erstwhile comedians. They did at least a certain function – not only entertained, but provided information, taught and made viewers aware, allowing them to look at things from a different perspective. In hard times, they performed social functions of barometers and sometimes safety valves. By practicing their peculiar art, they were draining any air out of the omniscient, pompous power and a pompous people. Although they themselves did not decision the planet forward, through the content and views presented they influenced the direction of this feed. I do not know whether the effects of their effort (outside the sphere of culture) have been measured in any way, but are undeniable. Laughter as well as music softens customs, and smart wit educates and breaks stereotypes by changing our view of the world, and thought is the first step.
Unfortunately, the calming moods and unrests of the superb cabaretists passed distant overwhelmingly to the lame, or holed up in their niches. It would be possible that this generational change took place at and thanks to the race in crossing all boundaries of culture and good decency. any tried to imitate erstwhile comedies mocking the vices of power, her courtiers and her simple people, but alternatively of fighting prejudice and filling divisions they joined the political struggle. This, of course, does not concern only our country (this is simply a broader problem, which does not only affect the planet of entertainment, but the whole, widely understood culture, increasingly becoming an instrument of ideological propaganda). However, as far as our backyard is concerned, due to the years that have been going on for many years, specified behaviours are a double threat. The nation divided between 2 parties, each of whom believes to represent a majority, and it is essential to show large skills and intelligence to bring them closer together, to make both sides laughter at the same time. I do not know what the intentions of the abovementioned comedians (as well as any of the representatives of the planet of culture) are, but any clearly missed their vocation – they should know that subtle hints and jokes from representatives of opposing camps can bring them closer, but they will not do so by attacks, political manifestos and open speaking on 1 side. The boundaries between mocking and insulting, as between expressing views and agitation, have always been very thin, but they are clearly discernible, but they require imagination.
However, those of cabaretists who have swapped roles with politicians are nothing compared to most alleged stand-upists, resembling not comedians, but court clowns who have nothing to say but to outrun themselves in profanity. The clowns (and besides – what should be stressed – the puppets, which unfortunately effort to keep pace with the male clowns) present at performances (and the wider audience in front of TVs and smartphones) their scrubbing bottom comedy genres. Useful (at least from the point of view of the ruling) idiots, giving monologues of nothing and distracting average people from crucial matters, which at least cannot be denied to the political propagators described above.
The entertainers of this kind have small to do with culture and art, although any believe that only one more time they extend their stretched to the limits of absurdity and taste horizons. I'm not a hypocrite, and I'm not saying I don't get to laughter at dirty jokes. I watched respective twelve stand-ups (not only as part of sociological research) and sometimes I snorted with laughter. But knowing something about them, I avoid them with a bow, and I surely wouldn't go on a akin show, the more dressed as a theatre (or alternatively of a theatre, taking the bread distant from real actors), to perceive to an idiot tell about vomiting or releasing gases from different holes in his body.
The fact that the main motives of most stand-upists are primitive human reflexes and physiological activities does not hurt as much as the fact that this kind of gutter amusement takes more and more air time and is constantly gaining popularity. In order not to think that I am clinging to a mediocre group of creators who make honest money for bread, I will just say that the above content is unfortunately just the tip of the iceberg, among the vastness of another worthless content pouring us out of the screens (those rather tiny and somewhat larger ones) devouring our time, energy and reason.
