Israel’s consequence to Hezbollah Threats

The Chief of the General Staff of the Israeli Armed Forces, General Herci Halewi, announced on Friday that Israel would not halt operations aimed at Hezbollah, stressing that this terrorist organization cannot number on "a minute of relief or rest". In an ongoing land operation in the south of Lebanon that began on Tuesday, Israel announced that it had killed about 440 Hezbollah militants.

Hezbollah did not stay passive – in the morning on Sunday, his forces attacked Israeli troops stationed in the north of the country. The Israeli army confirmed that about 30 missiles were fired from Lebanon's territory, any of which were intercepted by anti-aircraft defence systems and the others fell into Israeli territory.

Gaza attacks: civilian deaths and infrastructure destruction

At the same time, Israel continued military operations in the Gaza Strip. On Saturday, Israeli aviation attacked a mosque in the town of Deir al-Balah, where displaced Palestinians were seeking shelter there. Witnesses who cited Reuters reported that at least 21 people were killed as a consequence of the attack.

Rescue personnel, civilians, and civilian defence representatives operated in the dark utilizing flashlights from mobile phones, trying to save the wounded from debris. The recordings published by CNN showed dramatic scenes from the scene: bodies killed, wounded carried on blankets and rescue action in chaotic conditions.

Precise hits on Hamas

The Israeli army reported that the Saturday attack on Deir al-Balah was a "precision strike" aimed at the Hamas command center, located in the building of the erstwhile Shuhad al-Aksa mosque. In addition to the mosque, the intent of the Israeli armed forces was besides the terrorist command center, which was located at the erstwhile school.

Despite the Israeli army's assurances of targeting militants, reports of civilian victims of the attacks have appeared. The Gaza Strip authorities accused Israel of "two brutal massacres", reporting that 24 people were killed and nearly a 100 were injured as a consequence of these attacks.

Effects of the ongoing conflict

Israel's current military activities, both in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, are the next phase of the escalation of the ongoing conflict. The Israeli authorities keep that their goal is to mark Hezbollah and Hamas fighters, but the number of civilian casualties and the scale of demolition are causing concern to the global community. With ongoing operations and fire, the situation in the mediate East remains highly tense.

The Israeli army maintains its combat readiness, predicting further attacks, both from Hezbollah and Hamas. These actions, although motivated by national safety considerations, are becoming increasingly criticised, especially in the context of civilian casualties.

Completion

The anniversary of the Hamas assassination on Israel reminds us of the deep divisions and constant threats the region faces. Ongoing military operations in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip indicate that the conflict does not seem to be moving towards a solution, but rather, its escalation is bringing more and more casualties, especially among civilians.
