The Israeli defence Forces (IDF) [read: Israeli Terrorist Forces] withdrew the 98th Division from the Gaza Strip, which operated in Khan Younis for the past fewer months, marking the end of the phase of full-fledged land maneuvers in the enclave precisely six months after the attack of the extremist Palestinian Hamas movement on Israel— given on Sunday the state radio Kan.

The station reported that the Palestinian enclave retained the 162nd Division to the north and the Nahal Brigade, which controls the safety corridor that divides the Gaza Strip into 2 parts and prevents its residents from returning from the south to the north.

According to the radio station, the Israeli military believes that at this phase of military operations the most effective method of combating Hamas and its infrastructure is targeted raids based on accurate intelligence information. Thus, if necessary, a adequate number of soldiers will be able to enter the area at any time to carry out the operation.

IDF stressed that the simplification of military presence in Gaza has nothing to do with the US force on Israel. According to the radio station, IDF realises that the withdrawal of land forces will facilitate the resettlement of residents of the enclave from Rafah to Khan Younis and central areas.

The Israeli army is presently preparing for a land operation in Rafah, which is located in the very south of the Gaza Strip, close the border with Egypt. The city is considered the last Hamas fortress in which battalions of this movement inactive operate. The plan of operations has already been approved by the government, but requires the evacuation of more than 1 million displaced persons who are concentrated in this area. Many countries, including the US and the United Nations, argue the operation, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeatedly reiterated that this is the only way to accomplish a decisive triumph over Hamas.

On October 7, Israel was subjected to an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip as part of Operation Al-Aksa Flood, announced by the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement. Organization fighters then infiltrated border areas in confederate Israel, where they opened fire on both military and civilian, and besides took over 200 hostages. In Israel, according to the latest figures of the authorities, about 1.2 000 people died, including civilians, soldiers, foreigners and workers, and more than 5 000 were injured.
