In fresh days there has been a sharp exchange between the head of the Polish MFA Radosław Sikorski and Deputy Marshal of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak. The reason was Bosak's visit to head of the Hungarian MFA Peter Szijártó. Sikorski accused Bosak of ignoring crucial recommendations concerning Polish-Hungarian relations. What precisely happened, and what are the consequences of this dispute?
Bosak's gathering with Szijjártó: What was the subject of the talks?
On Tuesday in Warsaw, Krzysztof Bosak met with Peter Szijártó, head of the Hungarian MFA. According to Bosak in social media, the talks concerned, among others, cooperation within the V4 group, the Tri-Sea and the future of transatlantic relations after Donald Trump's eventual triumph in the U.S. presidential election. The politician besides stressed that there was talk about tackling EU climate policy, the alleged "green governance" and the Migration Pact.
– “With the vice-chair of the Confederate Club, Michał Wawrem and I discussed how to face the Eurocrats, defend our countries from the demolition of climate policy, “green governance”, the Migration Pact, etc.” said Bosak.
The politician pointed out that the gathering had the character of organization cooperation. The National Movement led by Bosak and the Hungarian Fidesz belong to the faction "Patriots for Europe" in the European Parliament. Bosak will take part in the summit of this group this Saturday, organised by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Madrid.

Radosław Sikorski did not leave a dry thread on the basis of Bosak. The head of Polish diplomacy expressed disappointment that the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm did not rise 2 key issues during the meeting: the blocking of funds from the European Instrument for Peace, which belong to Poland for equipment provided by Ukraine, and the failure by Hungary of the European Arrest Warrant towards erstwhile Deputy Minister of Justice Marcin Romanowski.
– "Mr Bosak received specified recommendations, but – as I realize it – he thought he would break them" said Sikorski at a conference of EU Ambassadors in Brussels. – "These are topics worth discussing with the Hungarian authorities" – he added.
Sikorski emphasized that regardless of the differences in circumstantial cases, Poland and Hungary must talk to each another to build the global entity of the countries of Central and east Europe. Otherwise, as he pointed out, stronger players will decide the future of the region above the heads of its residents.
National Movement and Fidesz: "Patriot cooperation for Europe"
Krzysztof Bosak, leader of the National Movement, stressed that cooperation with the Hungarian Fidesz aims to strengthen the position of the countries of Central and east Europe in the European Union. – "There are no reasonable grounds for Poland to break relations with Hungary. We must talk to each another and build the global subjectivity of our countries" – he noted.
The politician besides warned that the deficiency of cooperation between Poland and Hungary could lead to the marginalisation of the region. – “Otherwise, stronger ones will do everything above our heads!” Bosak stressed.
What next with Polish-Hungarian relations?
The dispute between Sikorski and Bosak shows how different abroad policy visions have representatives of the Polish government and opposition. Sikorski stresses the importance of discussions on blocking measures for Poland and cooperation within the EU, while Bosak focuses on building alliances with conservative parties in Europe, specified as Fidesz.
Will the gathering in Madrid, where Bosak will participate, affect Polish-Hungarian relations? What will be the consequences of breaking the advice by the Deputy talker of the Sejm? These questions stay unanswered for the time being, but 1 thing is certain – the relation between Warsaw and Budapest will be 1 of the key topics in the coming months.
