HONOLULU- Hawaiian Airlines (HA) will suspend three international and domestic long-haul routes from its Honolulu (HNL) hub in November 2025. The decision follows its recent acquisition by Alaska Air Group (AS), which is optimizing the Hawaiian fleet for higher-demand markets.
The carrier will end flights from Honolulu (HNL) to Boston (BOS), Fukuoka (FUK), and Seoul Incheon (ICN). Passengers booked on affected services will be offered rebooking on alternative flights or refunds. The Airbus A330-200 aircraft currently serving these routes will be redeployed to destinations with stronger revenue potential.

Hawaiian Airlines Cancels International Routes
From mid-November 2025, Hawaiian Airlines will discontinue:
- Honolulu (HNL) – Boston (BOS): 4x weekly
- Honolulu (HNL) – Fukuoka (FUK): 3x weekly
- Honolulu (HNL) – Seoul Incheon (ICN): 5x weekly
These cuts come as part of a broader plan to shift capacity toward more profitable routes. The freed-up aircraft will support an increase to five daily flights to Los Angeles (LAX), four daily flights to Seattle (SEA), one additional weekly flight to Papeete (PPT), and two more weekly flights to Sydney (SYD).
CEO Joe Sprague explained that the decision reflects persistent post-pandemic demand challenges from Asia and the long-haul economics of the Boston route.
Honolulu–Boston, once the longest domestic flight in the US, faced high operational costs and low yields, while the Seoul and Fukuoka routes remain competitive markets dominated by established Asian carriers, OMAAT reported.

Market Realities Behind the Route Cuts
Honolulu–Boston (BOS)
At over 5,000 miles, this was the longest nonstop domestic service in the US. Despite its novelty, demand and pricing did not offset operational costs. Delta Air Lines (DL) attempted the route in 2019 but quickly withdrew for similar reasons.
Honolulu–Fukuoka (FUK)
Japan–Hawaii traffic has yet to recover to pre-pandemic levels, with a weak yen further discouraging outbound travel. Competing nonstop services from Tokyo airports capture the majority of Japanese demand to Hawaii.
Honolulu–Seoul Incheon (ICN)
Competition from Asiana Airlines (OZ), Korean Air (KE), and Air Premia (YP) has made it difficult for Hawaiian to maintain profitability. Alaska Air Group plans to reroute Seoul-bound capacity via Seattle (SEA), where it is developing a stronger Asia-Pacific hub.

Focus on Profitable U.S. Mainland and Regional Links
Hawaiian Airlines’ expansion to Los Angeles and Seattle strengthens connectivity with Alaska Air Group’s domestic network.
Additional flights to Papeete and Sydney also cater to steady leisure demand and established partnership connections.
While these changes may seem less ambitious than launching new destinations, they align with the parent company’s priority of restoring profitability quickly.
