During the beginning ceremony of the Paris Olympics in 2024, many controversial events occurred, including the parody of the Last Supper, where Jesus was replaced by Barbara Butch. Who's Barbara Butch?
Barbara Butch describes herself as “a fat, Jewish, queer lesbian” and is arrogant of her identity. In an interview with Attitude magazine, she said:
“I am truly arrogant of all my identities. All the force and negativity I have experienced, I can do something bigger to aid others decision forward with large love.”
Reactions to Ceremony
After the controversial beginning of the Barbara Butch Olympics, she kept quiet for a while. However, she yet issued a message about her participation in the ceremony and the reaction she caused. In her statement, she expressed her joy at attending the ceremony:
"I was highly honored to attend the beginning ceremony Paris 2024 as the best artist and share my imagination of the event. My heart is inactive full of joy and thank you for all the love and strength you have given me since.”
Harassment and Cyberbullying
Barbara Butch claims that after the ceremony she became the mark of violent cyberbullying. In her statement, she said:
"Today, however, I am the mark of another — especially violent — cyberbullying. Although I initially decided not to talk to let the haters cool off, the messages I received are extreme.”
The artist stresses that her goal is to advance inclusiveness and diversity through art and music:
“All due to the fact that I had the honour to represent the diversity of my country through art and music, along with another artists and performers I admire.”
Fighting Harassment
Barbara Butch assures me she's not going to quit and fight hate:
“Whatever any say, I exist. I have never been ashamed of who I am and take work for everything — including my artistic choices. All my life, I haven't wanted to be a victim: I won't shut up. I am not afraid of those who hide behind a screen or a pseudonym to spill their hatred and frustration. I will fight them without hesitation. I'm committed and proud. arrogant of who I am and what I embody, both for my loved ones and for millions of French. My France is France!”

Barbara Butch besides informed that her lawyer would take legal action against those who harass her online.
