US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Danish and Greenland prime ministers Mette Frederiksen and Jens-Frederik Nielsen on 13 February. The AFP Agency reports that the subject of the conversation was fresh claims by US president Donald Trump towards the island.
The conversation took place at the Munich safety Conference. AFP reports that the gathering lasted 15 minutes and was held distant from the press, and details of the conversation were not disclosed. – Constructive talks with State Secretary Mark Rubio – she wrote briefly on the X Mette Frederiksen platform.
On the another hand, Danish abroad Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen had earlier told Danish media that he hoped that the conversation with Rubio would “confirm that the process initiated by us is good and must continue”.
In January Donald Trump withdrew from his threats of taking over Greenland. This happened after being agreed in Davos with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte ‘ram’ to increase US presence on the island. A working group was besides set up, comprising representatives of Greenland, Denmark and the USA. It is to work on American concerns about this autonomous Danish territory.
