In a groundbreaking case that could revolutionize the way tech giants conduct their interests, a national court for the Colombian territory of the United States ruled that Google is guilty of creating a monopoly on the net search engine market. This sentence, as the fresh York Times emphasizes, is simply a milestone in the judicial fight against technological giants.

"Google is simply a monopolist and acted in this function to keep its monopoly," said justice Amit P. Mehta. In a 277-page ruling, he stressed that Google had broken the law to keep its dominant position on the net search engine market. As the ‘NYT’ noted, this decision may affect the way technology giants conduct their interests.

In 2020, the US Ministry of Justice and individual US states accused Google of illegally building its marketplace advantage by paying another companies specified as Apple or Samsung to have their search engine set on their devices by default. “NYT” reports that Google has spent billions of dollars a year for this purpose.

The law prof. at Vanderbilt University, Rebecca Haw Allensworth, specializing in antitrust law, described the process as "the largest antitrust trial of the 21st century and the first of many technological giants to end badly for them". She added that this could be a breakthrough in the fight against monopolistic practices.

The court acknowledged the complainants' right in the most crucial allegations, although in insignificant cases he favored Google's argument. For example, he disagreed with the allegation that the company was blocking the Bing search engine, owned by Microsoft.

Google CEO Kent Walker has already announced that the company will appeal the ruling of the court. "This decision confirms that Google offers the best search tool but at the same time recognises that we should not facilitate access to it," he said.

The U.S. Ministry of Justice conducts respective cases aimed at technological giants specified as Google or Apple. According to the “NYT”, in these court battles, the government examines how many antitrust laws, the first version of which was created in the early 20th century, are effective in the age of global technological concerns.

Google, which is part of the Alphabet holding company, offers many digital products that the Google search engine is best known for. According to Simillarweb, it is utilized in 91 percent of all online searches in the world.

The court ruling may have far-reaching consequences not only for Google, but besides for another technological giants who will gotta rethink their business strategies in the light of a tightening anti-trust policy.
