Russian Gieran-5 can scope about 600 km/h, so free interception drones are not adequate to combat it. You request fast interceptors, a dense network of sensors, and automatic alignment of the intersection course. For Poland, the proposal is urgent: a fresh layer of defence must be built before specified targets appear.
Speed takes time to react
Gieran-5 is changing the air defence account. How He Describes Defence analysis24, turbojet unmanned can make a velocity of about 600 km/h. It besides has a higher ceiling and scope than the older structures of the Gieran family. So in any ways it approaches a inexpensive maneuvering missile.
Against the slower Gierani-2 Ukraine built a strategy based on mobile fire groups, device guns and inexpensive interception drones. With a mark moving at 500–600 km/h, this model loses part of its effectiveness. The electrical interceptor may neglect to scope the right tallness or catch up with the target. The decision window is clearly shrinking.
The Interceptor must operate online
The higher velocity of the interceptor alone does not solve the problem. What matters is the geometry of the meeting. The strategy must detect the drone early, estimation its way and direct the interceptor to the intersection course before the Russian device finds itself above the protected object. In the final phase, the drone interceptor's own sensor should take over.
Such architecture requires the connection of radars and another sensors to the command strategy and various effectors. During a mass attack, the operator cannot execute all decision manually. Experience with pressures on the Polish sky from the east They show that consequence time is besides crucial for our safety.
Ukraine is already investigating turbojet solutions. Defence24 indicates among others Chaklun Jet, developed to combat the Gieranis-4 and the Gieranis-5. The maker shall specify a maximum velocity of about 450 km/h and a passing velocity of about 220 km/h. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, the interceptor Alex Spatium was besides accepted for equipment. This proves that the direction of work has been set, although the scale of production remains a separate challenge.
Defense Economy is part of the war
A Russian mass drone cannot be fought with the most costly ground-to-air missile. specified exchange exhausts warehouses faster than the production capacity of the opponent. An indirect effector is needed: more costly and efficient than simple FPV, but much cheaper than an advanced rocket.
According to the Ukrainian estimates cited by Defence24, the Russian production of turbojet unmanned vehicles could scope around 3,000 units per month, and in August Russia was to usage around 2,850 specified machines. These data originate from the Ukrainian side and do not constitute an independently confirmed balance sheet. Even with a large margin of error, however, they show the problem of massiness.
Classic missiles will inactive be needed against the most dangerous targets. The last layer can be reinforced by missile-artillery systems and programmable ammunition. Poland needs a full ladder of effectors, not 1 solution advertised as a consequence to all kind of unmanned aircraft.
Poland must start before the threat
The program of the fast Polish interceptor should start now. Its core must be serial production, short retrofit cycles and work in the national sensor network. respective twelve effective demonstrators will not defend critical infrastructure or cities. Hundreds are needed, then thousands of copies that can be improved with a change in Russian tactics.
We do not start from scratch, but we do not have a strategy of scale developed in Ukraine during the years of the war. erstwhile Russian attack launches Polish air defenceWe see aviation readiness. However, defending against a mass of inexpensive and fast targets requires a denser, cheaper and more automatic system.
The stakes concern the life of Poles, the safety of bases, power stations and transport nodes and the opposition of the state to Russian pressure. The war across the east border gives us an costly lesson without having to learn it on Warsaw or Rzeszów. To waste that time would be neglect.
