At least 35 people died on Saturday in Israeli attacks on Bajt Lahija in the north of the Gaza Strip, reported the Al-Jazira tv portal. WHO head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that the humanitarian situation in the north of the Gaza Strip was disastrous.
The attack on Bajt Lahija was aimed at residential buildings, respective of them were demolished, the number of wounded could increase," Al-Jazira said. Israeli troops have been leading an offensive in the north of the Gaza Strip for over 3 weeks. The army declares that its goal is to break up Hamas' terrorist forces. According to local authorities, about 800 people have died since the start of the fresh offensive.
Humanitarian organisations and the media have been alarming the tragic humanitarian situation in the north of Gaza for weeks. Israel called on all residents of this area already destroyed in earlier war phases to evacuate to the confederate humanitarian zone. The media reports that not everyone wants or can leave the area under siege by Israeli troops.
Aid organisations have already reported that the alleged safe humanitarian region located in the vicinity of Al-Mawasi is overflowing and lacks the infrastructure to receive fresh refugees. Currently, most of the over 2 million people in the Gaza Strip live in the zone. The exact boundaries of this area were repeatedly changed by orders from the Israeli army, and on Saturday the military reported an expansion of the humanitarian zone.
– The existing evacuation orders and the continuing restrictions on the supply of essential products make the remaining civilians in the north of the Gaza Strip in a terrible situation – stressed in the Saturday message of the global Committee of the Red Cross, calling for safe corridors for people who want to flee south.
For the first 2 weeks of October, no transports with assistance were made to the northern Gaza Strip. The US urged Israel to improve the humanitarian situation of the population, pointing out that non-compliance with this request could consequence in a simplification in military aid. Since then, Israel has released transports with assistance. According to local officials, however, they do not scope the north of the Zone. Israel underlines that aid agencies are already liable for distribution inside Gaza.
The humanitarian situation in the north of Gaza is “catastrophic”, the fights are fought at and within wellness care facilities, there is simply a deficiency of medical materials, as the head of the planet wellness Organization (WHO) warned on Saturday. He mentioned the situation at Kamal Adwan infirmary in the north of the Gaza Strip. Palestinian officials reported that on Friday the facility was stormed by Israeli soldiers who detained 44 men working there. Then 14 of them were released. The Army reported that the activities were carried out after obtaining intelligence on the ‘presence of terrorists and their infrastructure’ at the hospital.
The war in the Gaza Strip broke out after Hamas' terrorist attack to the south of Israel on 7 October 2023. Around 1,200 people were killed during this attack, and 251 were kidnapped. According to local authorities, over 42.8 1000 Palestinians were killed as a consequence of the Israeli offensive against Hamas. The Gaza Strip is ruined, most of its inhabitants have become interior refugees.
