Retired Spanish King Juan Carlos I filed a suit against his erstwhile lover Corinnie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein (née Larsen) and her erstwhile lawyer Dante Canonica – reports Pais newspaper, citing sources surrounded by the erstwhile monarch.

"Juan Carlos I filed a suit in a Swiss court of alleged crimes against honor against his erstwhile partner Corinnie Larsen and her erstwhile lawyer – Geneva lawyer Dante Canonica," writes the newspaper

According to the newspaper, the suit concerns statements and information that Juan Carlos believed was widespread by Larsen and Canonic and damaged his honor and dignity.

It should be noted that for respective years the lawyers of the erstwhile king advised him not to enter into a court dispute with Larsen, who had previously lost the case of harassment and surveillance against him in the British court.

Nevertheless, after winning in London, the lawyers insisted on the anticipation of filing an honorary lawsuit.
According to an investigation by the Swiss prosecutor, Juan Carlos received €65 million from the Saudi Ministry of Finance in 2008 and passed it on to his then companion Corinnie Larsen in 2012 through the Panamanian Lucum Foundation. The funds were declared irrevocably a donation and then went to Larsen's abroad accounts in the bank branch in the Bahamas and the bank in fresh York City. At the same time, Canonica was the admin of the Lucum Foundation in Panama. Despite the requests of the erstwhile king, Larsen refused to return the money. In 2021, the Swiss prosecutors dismissed an investigation into possible money laundering without uncovering any crime.

In 2020, Corinna Larsen (who previously had the name of her second spouse Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn) sued Juan Carlos and the management of the Spanish National Intelligence Center. According to Larson's allegations, she's been harassed since her relation with Juan Carlos broke up. In particular, it ensures that it was subjected to force and surveillance after it refused to return EUR 65 million. In particular, as reported by Larsen, the Spanish safety services searched her home in London.

Juan Carlos, married to Greek Sofia since 1962, abdicated to his boy Felipe in 2014, but retained the title of king. In March 2020, due to a corruption scandal, Felipe VI decided to deprive his father of funds from the royal budget and besides renounced his succession. In August 2020, Juan Carlos left Spain and went to the United arabian Emirates. He decided not to return to his homeland for now, but to stay in Abu Dhabi, according to a letter to his son, King Felipe VI, made public in March 2022.
