1000 years ago. Gniezno, symbolic coronation of Chrobry.
Here's the full speech. President of PolandA RETURNED CAROL.107 anniversary of the outbreak of the Wielkopolska Uprising.
You can besides slow read the content of the speech yourself.
Dear fellow countrymen, Brothers from Wielkopolska, Honourable Families of Insurgents, Dear Marshal, General, Gentlemen Ministers, Excellency, Priest Bishop, Officers of the Polish Army, Ladies and gentlemen!
It is impossible to full realize the phenomenon of the victorious Wielkopolska uprising without awareness of the past of this land, the land of Wielkopolska, what it is for Poles – and it is indeed the cradle of Polishness, is the origin from which the full Republic of Poland was born. due to the fact that it is here, on the land of Wielkopolska, a 1000 years ago that the large King Bolesław Chrobry accepted the crown – a crown that is inactive with us in the 21st century. The crown, which is simply a symbol of the sovereignty and independency of the Polish state. The Crown, which is simply a victorious symbol of the Republic, but besides a crown which speaks so much about our national community, a community open to the West, but ready to defend besides the western border of the Republic, as the Wielkopolska insurgents knew.
My loved ones, before the victorious Wielkopolska uprising broke out, this land took part in the longest modern European war, for over a 100 years under force from Prussian imperialism, German imperialism, which became even sharper after 1871 and after the emergence of the Second German Reich, and thanks to Otto von Bismarck. It was then that Prussian imperialism became so extremist – I will remind you that it was built on the ideas of liberal thinkers and politicians who wrote in books and dictionaries, that Poles were Iroquois from the East, taking distant the dignity of civilization to Poles and Poles. In books, in dictionaries, in ideas, in political activity, this affected the Wielkopolska land very much. And after 1871, aggressive Culturekampf wanted to take distant what was most crucial – our culture, our national heritage. Wielkopolska responded so beautifully – calling the Society of People's Education – answered with her work, social action, organic work, fundamental work, taking care of Polish language, fighting for Polish Catholic Church, and the Catholic Church besides fought for Polishness. So Wielkopolska responded to aggressive Kulturkampf – work, nurturing national identity.
When the Colonization Commission and a billion German brands came to change the demography of this land and to make it as tiny as possible for Poles to appoint the Earth Bank. They found financial resources not to leave the Polish land they loved so much. In the same way they besides responded to Hakata – hard organic work and nurturing national identity. And erstwhile Prusak tormented Polish children in Wielkopolska, in September, Wielkopolska did not quit and the most crucial for them were culture, heritage, Polish language and values around which this community was built.
So it can be said, my dear fellow countrymen, that for decades and even for a century, the inhabitants of this land – the land of Wielkopolska – waited for the golden horn to sound so that the Wielkopolska troops would move. And this golden horn sounded on December 27, 1918 – 107 years ago there sounded a golden horn in the hands of virtuoso; virtuoso not only of music, but besides of the virtuoso of Polishness, 1 of the fathers of Polish independency – Ignacy Jan Paderewski. The golden horn sounded, and the troops started to fight for the most crucial thing – for the Republic of Poland.
And I gotta remind you, due to the fact that this is seldom mentioned – after 11 November 1918 the reborn Republic of Poland in this form, which proposed Western powers, was not able to become a strong state, to become a ready country to meet the challenges – due to the fact that there was no advanced Silesia, there was no Pomerania, there was no fundamental part of Wielkopolska. After 11 November it was Poland half as we know it today. Not ready to become a Republic by specified aggressive neighbors.
I say all this because, my dear friends, the Wielkopolska insurgents have taken up their fight on behalf of the cradle of Polishness, on behalf of their fathers, mothers, grandparents and great-grandparents, who for decades have not surrendered to Prussian imperialism.
They undertook their fight to make Poland Poland, due to the fact that there is no Poland without Wielkopolska and there is no Wielkopolska without Poland.
And only all this – this time of value, time of fight, attachment to what is most crucial – after the notes of the golden corner could trigger in the hearts of the inhabitants of Wielkopolska what is most important, or Poland. Therefore, 100,000 people were ready to win the Wielkopolska uprising after the Prussian provocation and the words of Ignacy Jan Paderewski. Thanks to the wonderful civilian temporary power, the People's Council, thanks to the excellent commanders of the Wielkopolska Uprising, those whom we know, of course, like Stanisław Taczak and Józef Dowbor–Muśnicki, anyway, dear State, like the well-known Chief of Staff of Władysław Anders. But besides thanks to commanders like Mieczysław Paluch, whom I would like to remind today. Thanks to civilian power, military power, with 100,000 soldiers ready to fight for Poland and for Polish Wielkopolska managed to win.
But as in all uprising there were besides victims. Mr Marszałek cited Franciszek Ratajczak, the first victim of the Wielkopolska uprising, but 2 1000 300 people donated their blood to make Wielkopolska part of Poland: Jan Mertka, Antoni Andrzejewski. Not all names we know today, we can not all mention, but I want to say loudly as president of Poland: praise to all the Wielkopolska insurgents who gave their blood for making Wielkopolska Polish, even if we do not know their names. Thank you for that!
Dear Mr. Marshal, Mr. General, dear Soldiers, dear residents of Poznań and all of Wielkopolska, dear States. At the time they were, present there are us – Poles in the 21st century. We must think about our national identity and our cultural heritage – it is our duty. We must do everything to guarantee that Poland remains Polish based on the foundations that I was talking about before, but besides on the blood that was shed for these foundations and for this national heritage. It is our work as a national community in the 21st century.
Today we and the Wielkopolska Uprising must read that Poles as a national community – like the Wielkopolskas – must work hard for decades, due to the fact that the Wielkopolska uprising meets 2 large Polish traditions – a positivistic and romanticist tradition, a tradition of hard work and a tradition of readiness to insure and fight. Today, in the 21st century, we must be the same as them – ready for hard work, if possible, if only our safety is not threatened. But yes, we must besides be ready to have courage erstwhile conflict or war comes. That's what they teach us. We can't quit our courage. They were both industrious and courageous, and present Poland needs it in the 21st century, and this is what the Wielkopolska uprising talks about.
Thank you very much for being here all year in Poznań and remembering the winning Wielkopolska uprising. Thank you, Mr. Marshal, for this celebration. Thank you that as last year I will be able to go with you in the March of the Wielkopolska Uprising. Thank you to the people of Poznań and the full of Wielkopolska, that this is simply a festival – the National Day of the Winning Wielkopolska Uprising – is so civic. Thank you for that.
Thank you to everyone who has led to the fact that we have the National Day of Memory of the Winning Wielkopolska Uprising, those heads of the wonderful Wielkopolska institutions that have taken this initiative. I thank my predecessor Andrzej Duda for making this decision. I am very arrogant to look at the General, thanking him that the 2nd Wing of Aviation will have the name of the Winning Wielkopolska Insurrections – thank you, Mr General, it speaks so much.
Ladies and gentlemen, let us read the Wielkopolska uprising as it was. Let's read them in the 21st century, let's be inspired by Wielkopolska and the large Poznań in all Poland, due to the fact that she gave us an example of Wielkopolska, how to win. Long live Poznań, Long live Wielkopolska, Long live Poland!
