Similar Incident
In January 2025, Delta Air Lines (DL) Boeing 757 experienced an engine fire during takeoff at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, forcing an emergency evacuation of more than 200 passengers. Flight crew executed emergency protocols when pilots detected the engine issue while accelerating for departure.
Video footage captured firefighters extinguishing flames in the starboard engine as passengers evacuated via emergency slides onto the icy runway. The incident affected Flight DL2668, scheduled to depart from Atlanta to Minneapolis-St. Paul Friday morning.
The 21-year-old aircraft carried 201 passengers, four flight attendants, and two pilots. Airport authorities confirmed four minor injuries resulting from the evacuation, with one person requiring hospital transport, contradicting Delta’s initial report of no injuries.
Delta Air Lines issued an apology for the disruption while emphasizing its commitment to passenger safety. The company now faces operational challenges as it manages displaced travelers and addresses the aircraft damage.
The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred at approximately 9:05 a.m. local time. In its official statement, the FAA acknowledged the aborted takeoff and evacuation, stating simply, “The FAA will investigate.”
