Member of the European Parliament Anna Bryłka during the EP debate in Strasbourg, 23 October 2024.
Climate radicalism in the European Union effectively eliminates jobs and Europe's competitiveness in global markets. You can't build, but you can destroy!
The steel manufacture has been in the worst position since the financial crisis in 2009, with steel production in the Union falling by 30% since 2008.
China exports immense quantities of steel at prices lower than production costs – and this results in lower marketplace prices. This situation besides forces another steel-producing regions to export to the EU market.
High energy costs are the main origin of a simplification in competitiveness, peculiarly affecting energy-intensive industries.
What to do:
■immediately lower energy prices!
■immediately defend the competitiveness of the steelworks from the expanding influx of unfair imports from 3rd countries
We have a harmful climate policy in Europe, but we do not have an effective industrial policy – until this changes – the manufacture of countries specified as Poland will liquidate and poorness and unemployment will increase. It is the responsibility of the European Commission and this home – it is the responsibility of the European Union!
