The fact that next year Easter according to the Julian calendar and according to the Gregorian calendar should coincide with Catholics and Orthodox, as well as the faithful east Churches to pray together in the rebuilt Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris – they wrote in a joint letter published on 5 May in the French paper "Le Figaro" Archbishop of Paris Laurent Ulrich together with the Orthodox Metropolitan of France Demetrios Poulis.
After the fire that digested the cathedral on 15 April 2019, it will be reopened in December of this year. The first Easter celebrated in the renovated cathedral will so be held in 2025, erstwhile the date according to the Julian calendar and according to the Gregorian calendar will coincide. This is simply a symbolic fact, which should not be underestimated – the signatories of the letter consider.
"The next year, the Jubilee Year and the 1700th anniversary of the Council of good (325 after Christ), whose authority is recognized by all Christian Churches, will be celebrated by providence Easter the same day: 20 April 2025. And on that day, at the initiative of all those liable for the ecumenical dialog in our Churches, all Christians of Île-de-France will be invited to assemble, on Easter Sunday afternoon, at the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, whose brilliance and vitality have been restored" - wrote Archbishop Urlich and Metropolitan Demetrios.
On this occasion, the Archbishop of Paris and the Orthodox metropolitan of France one more time appealed for a common date for Easter for east and Western Christians. They express their conviction that this act would represent a very crucial step toward unity, which Jesus prayed to the Father for Christians to give a fuller witness to their faith. At the same time, they call for peace and disarmament and for opposition to violence.
Signatories note that the issue of unity is not only religious. It besides applies to planet peace due to the fact that “conflicts that teardrop down very many countries, peculiarly Ukraine, Armenia and the Holy Land, would undoubtedly be little hard to overcome if all Christian Churches were more united, united in the same religion and in the same love. The urgent request to contribute to peace, to defy force and the destructive cruelty of weapons is besides a request and an urgent ecumenical need," they stress.
The Archbishop of Paris and the Orthodox metropolitan of France are aware that setting a common date for Easter can meet with resistance, but they nevertheless stress that "we must not fear a bold step forward: if it is adapted, it will gradually increase the dynamics of unity. religion in the triumph of unity is besides an expression of religion in the Resurrection," wrote Archbishop Laurent Urlich and Metropolitan Demetrios Poulis.
“The work on the unity of Christians must not be supported but by action in this spirit, that the sectarians return to the bosom of the 1 actual Church of Christ, from which they, unfortunately, were cast off. We repeat that they should return to 1 Church of Christ, which is all seen, and forever, by His Founder's will, he will stay as He has established him for the salvation of all men. The Mystic Bride of Christ has remained without plague for centuries and can never experience a plague," Pope Pius XI emphasized in the encyclical "Mortalium Animos" devoted to "supporting the actual unity of religion."
As the Holy Father explained, the message that Christ's request for unity of his disciples obliges us to dialog with the erring this serious error, based on uncertainty in the divine message and purity of the truths revealed by the Catholic Church.
“It would seem that the omnibrates (panchristiani), seeking to unite all the Churches, are aiming for the lofty intent of expanding love among all Christians. How, though, it would be possible for love to flourish after the demolition of faith. We all know that it was John, the Apostle of Love, who seems to have revealed in his Gospel the mysteries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who utilized to inculcate in his disciples the fresh commandment, "Love 1 another," that he was the 1 who powerfully forbidden to keep relations with those who did not confess the religion of Christ in their entirety and without prejudice...," made the Vicar of Christ sensitive.
