Donald Tusk announced on September 17 a night journey to Ukraine after a Russian attack in the Yahka area, close Dorohuska. The Prime Minister was to talk to Volodymyr Zelenski about the anti-balistic coalition and study back on the state of energy. For Poland this means the request to prepare the border and infrastructure hard for Russian escalation.

Attack respective kilometres from Poland

The Russian strike occurred in western Ukraine, very close to the Polish border. Donald Tusk spoke during a press conference with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker that a fuel facility was most likely attacked in the Yamow area close Dorohusk. The Prime Minister described the detonation as very strong. This is another signal that Moscow is consciously carrying the burden of action close the NATO state.

On the same day, the Operations Command of Armed Forces Types picked up Polish and allied aviation. The Government safety Center sent warnings to the residents of Lublin and Podkarpackie voivodships. Aviation operations were completed after 13 and alerts were cancelled. A fewer days earlier Russian attacks on the Polish border led to a gathering of services.

Night journey and conversation with Zelenski

Tusk announced that he would drive through Ukraine at night, and on his return he would present an assessment of the state of the energy infrastructure there. The Chancellery of the Prime Minister confirmedthat the intent of the visit was besides to talk to president Volodymyr Zelenski about working together within the anti-balistic coalition.

The journey of the head of government itself has a political dimension, but the state cannot halt with a gesture. Warsaw needs concrete arrangements for data exchange, airspace protection and border crossings. all specified commitment must be measured by the interest of Poland: whether it increases the ability to defend our territory, whether it increases the safety of citizens and whether it does not make commitments without clear control of the Sejm and the public.

Burning Hopes for the Kremlin

The Prime Minister besides referred to Donald Trump's hope that Russia would halt the impacts on the energy infrastructure. According to Tusk, events at the Polish border showed that specified expectations were not fulfilled. Right. The Kremlin evaluates declarations through the prism of force, cost and risk, not the good intentions of Western leaders.

This does not mean that Poland is to presume uncritically all line of Kiev or any ally. National realism requires 2 things at the same time: supporting Ukraine's independency against Russian aggression and maintaining full freedom in defence of Polish interests. Warning that the threat of war is real, must lead to budgetary, organisational and infrastructure decisions, not to another series of conferences.

Poland cannot number on happiness

Attacks on fuel, railway and energy purposes close Dorohusk besides affect Polish transport, trade and sense of safety of residents of east voivodships. Russian attack on Dorohusk already hit Polish transport. The State should so consider the resilience of railways, energy networks and communications as part of national defence.

The PM's post-travel study makes sense only if it translates into a public catalogue of threats and actions. Poles have the right to know whether the alarm strategy works smoothly, whether the east border has the right cover and what reserves have been prepared for winter. Russia is investigating the resilience of its neighbours with actions. Poland must respond with its own readiness, without naivety and without making safety dependent on another people's promises.
