Recent events in the Law and Justice Camp (PiS) revealed interior tensions between organization leaders. The conflict has been marked by key regional positions. The case concerns the appointment of Barbara Nowak as the head of the Kraków PiS structures, which met with the harsh criticism of erstwhile Prime Minister Beata Szydło.
Barbara Nowak nomination
The decision to appoint Barbara Nowak, a erstwhile Lesser Poland education curator, to the position of president of the Kraków PiS structures has sparked a wave of controversy. Beata Szydło, a Euro MP and erstwhile Prime Minister, did not hide her surprise and disapproval for this move. She publically expressed her opinion by writing on platform X (formerly Twitter):
“This cannot be true. individual would gotta lose contact with reality to resign Michał Drewnicki.”
Szydło stressed that Michał Drewnicki, the erstwhile head of the Krakow PiS structures, is simply a symbol of the organization in the region and “a super chief of the structures”. In her statements, she pointed out that Drewnicki led the Kraków PiS in very hard times erstwhile others withdrew.
Answer by Jarosław Kaczyński
Beata Szydło rapidly responded to the words of PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński. His message was clear:
"Perhaps the Prime Minister has a different opinion here, but this is irrelevant at the moment, Euro MPs as far as our organization is concerned, but they are in a circumstantial situation, they are to fight in the European Parliament, and at the same time they are prohibited from occupying functions from those related to moving the party, the real leadership functions in the organization due to the fact that it is simply not possible to merge."
Kaczyński made it clear that the opinion of Szydło would not affect the decisions concerning the management of the party. He besides added that her opinion is private and disagrees with it radically, although expressing respect and sympathy for the erstwhile Prime Minister.
Analysis
This public dispute shows deeper divisions inside the Law and Justice. The nominations for key regional positions are always a minute of trial for unity in the party, and the current situation shows that not all office decisions are accepted without objection. Beata Szydło's statements may be a signal of discontent among any organization members who may feel left out or incorrectly represented by fresh nominations.
At the same time, Jarosław Kaczyński's reaction points to his firm approach to organization management and maintaining interior discipline. Emphasis on the function of MEPs who should focus on working in the European Parliament is besides a reminder of the circumstantial hierarchy in the Law and Justice Union.
Conclusion
The dispute between Jarosław Kaczyński and Beata Szydło is another example of interior tensions in the Law and Justice. It shows that while the organization outside presents itself as monolith, interior discussions and disagreements are inevitable. In the context of upcoming elections and key policy decisions, managing specified conflicts will be crucial for the future of the Law and Justice Union.
This situation can besides affect the perception of the organization by voters who observe how the leaders of the Law and Justice organization deal with interior challenges and how dialog is taking place inside the party. Ultimately, the ability to manage differences of opinion and keep unity will be crucial for the continued success of the Law and Justice organization on the Polish political scene.
