Detention of foreigners in Warsaw: false papers and threat to public security

On 8 May, the officers of the Border defender from Warsaw detained 5 foreigners, who broke residence regulations and posed a threat to safety and public order in Poland. These activities are part of systematic checks on the legality of abroad residence in our country.

Among the detainees was a Turkish citizen who presented a passport during the audit containing the stamp of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, to show that he had applied for a temporary residence permit. However, paper analysis and verification of data in Border defender systems did not confirm the authenticity of this notification. As it turned out, the stamp was forged – it imitated the first administrative mark, but it was made illegally.

Another detainee was a Ukrainian citizen who has many crimes committed in Poland, including robberies, thefts and the usage of false documents. Due to the serious threat he posed, he was given the decision to leave the country immediately feasible. After completion of the procedures, he was transported under convoy to the border crossing in Dorohusk and transferred to the Ukrainian side.

The another 3 foreigners – citizens of Georgia and Azerbaijan – were besides covered by administrative proceedings. They were subject to an work to return with the simultaneous ban on re-entry to Poland and another Schengen countries. This prohibition will apply for 1 to six years.

Border defender activities show that the services effectively monitor cases of abuse related to legalisation of residence and besides respond firmly to threats to public order.
