ATLANTA- Delta Air Lines (DL) late made headslines by cancelling its flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Shanghai (PVG), China. This decision has left travelers searching for alternate options to get to their destination.
Delta Air Lines, a associate of the SkyTeam Alliance, has officially pulled the plug on its trans-Pacific service between Los Angeles and Shanghai. However, Delta’s direct services to Shanghai from Detroit and Seattle stay unaffected, providing alternate options for passengers, Ishrion Aviation reported.

Despite easing post-pandemic conditions and prevailing political tensions, request between China and the United States has remained restrained, with capacity inactive far below 2019 levels.
Before the impact of COVID-19 and ongoing political pressures, Delta had been operating a direct service between Los Angeles global Airport (LAX) and Shanghai Pudong global Airport (PVG).
Despite earlier plans to relax the way in March of this year, delays and guarantees have eventual led to the airline scrapping its plans for the Los Angeles route.

While Los Angeles flights are canned, Delta’s direct services from Seattle, Washington, and Detroit, Michigan, stay company in place.
From Seattle Tacoma global Airport (SEA), Delta’s hub in the northwest, the airline offers regular service to Shanghai with its Airbus A330-900neo, following the agenda below:
- DL281 departments Seattle at 11:15 and arrivals in Shanghai at 15:15 the following day, with a block time of 13 hours.
- DL282 leaves Shanghai at 17:30, flying overnight, and arrivals in Seattle at 13:55 on the same day, with a block time of 11 hours and 25 minutes.
In addition to the Seattle route, Delta operates flights from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne region Airport (DTW) to Shanghai 3 times a week utilizing the A350-900, with the following flight studies:
- DL389 departments Detroit at 10:10 and arrivals in Shanghai at 13:45 the next day, with a block time of 15 hours and 25 minutes.
- DL388 departments from Shanghai at 15:45 and arrivals in Detroit at 18:00 the same day, with a block time of 14 hours and 30 minutes.

Although Delta has abandoned its Los Angeles to Shanghai route, there are inactive a variety of airlines offering services between Los Angeles and various destinations in China and Hong Kong.
Airlines specified as Air China, Cathay Pacific, China Eastern, China Southern, Sichuan Airlines, and United Airlines proceed to service the LA – China market, providing travelers with alternate options.
With Delta’s resulted from the Los Angeles to Shanghai route, United Airlines has consolidated its position as a leading carrier in the region.
United now offers a more robust presence from the Los Angeles Basin, with an extended network of long-haul global routes to destinations specified as Hong Kong, London Heathrow, Melbourne, Sydney, Tokyo, and more.
In contrast, Delta maintains year-round flights to Paris, Sydney, and Tokyo (Haneda), while Auckland, Brisbane, and Papeete are reserved seasonally.
