The Vice-Chief of the Synod on Synodality is convinced that Pope Leon XIV will proceed the reforms of Francis. This includes the place of women in the Church.
This was the opinion presented by Ms Nathalie Becquart, a French xavirian woman, since 2021 by the Undersecretary in the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops. As the first female in history, she had the right to vote at the Synod of Bishops; in 2024, all laymen attending the assembly, both men and women, received specified a right.
In conversation with the German portal Die Furche p. Becquart said that in her opinion the synodal process will not be addressing the issue of women's admission to the sacrament of holiness very soon. However, this does not mean that Leon XIV should stay idle about the function of women in the Church. According to the nun, the Holy Father will place you in key management positions, as Francis had already done.
The Vice-Chief of the Synod on Synodality stressed that Robert Provost already as a bishop in Peru supported women taking over executive positions; he did likewise in the Roman Curia as prefect of the Bishops' Dicastery.
The nun besides emphasized that Leon XIV participated in the synodial processes so far and knows this subject well. That's why she's calm about the future.
– I am absolutely convinced that [Leon XIV] will proceed the way of synodality within the meaning of Francis – she noted.
