The Central Anti-corruption Office stopped Anna Plakwicz and Piotr Matczuk on 23 September in Warsaw in an investigation into the run "Justice Courts". Przemysław Czarnek considered the morning action and bringing them to Rzeszów as the “Tuska and Żurka circus”. The credibility of the state is at stake today: the investigation must explain the release of public money, but the services cannot service a political spectacle.
Morning CBA action in Warsaw
CBA officers detained Anna Plakewicz and Piotr Matczuk on the morning of September 23. They were transferred from Warsaw to the Regional Public Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów, which conducts proceedings concerning irregularities in the Polish National Foundation. Minister of peculiar Services coordinator Jacek Dobrzyński confirmed the detention of 2 people. At the time of the publication of the first communications, the service did not inform whether the detainees would hear the charges.
That's another part of the case that we're talking about. The National diary reported on the day of detention. Plakwik heads the Events Office at the Chancellery of president Karol Nawrocki, and Matczuk is associated with the tv Republic. Both had previously worked as advisers to Prime Minister Beata Szydło and were members of Solvere's board of directors, implementing the run for the PFN "Justice Courts".
Czarnek talks about political performance
Przemysław Czarnek questioned the way the services operated, not the specified request to explain the foundation's finances. He pointed out that 9 years had passed since the campaign, while the detainees were taken from their homes around 6 o'clock and transported to Rzeszów. In his opinion, they could have been called to the D.A.
Law and Justice politician called the action “Tusk and Żurk circus” and linked it to preparations for the next parliamentary elections. In his opinion, akin actions are intended to cover the problems of the government and will be repeated in the coming months. That's a serious political charge, not an investigation. It should be distinguished.
What is it about the PWN investigation?
The “Justice Courts” run was conducted in 2017 and presented arguments for changes in the judiciary. It was financed by the Polish National Foundation, created by companies of the Treasury. The current authorities and prosecutors estimation that the task served the interests of the parties forming the then government. However, a court may decide whether there has been a crime after examining the evidence.
In July, the CBA detained 2 erstwhile members of the board of directors of the PFN. The prosecution accused them of abuse of their powers and failure to fulfil their duties, indicating harm of at least PLN 8 428 542,74. The suspects didn't plead guilty and filed an explanation. We described the details of the July charges after the prosecutor's noticeand gave full legal qualification Regional Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów.
The state must explain, not organize a show
Public money is not owned by any party. If there is evidence of their unlawful use, the prosecution must act hard and bring the case before an independent court. This standard must apply to all crew, including the right-wing environment.
Proportionality is equally important. Stopping at dawn, transport through half of Poland and media setting requires a circumstantial procedural justification, especially erstwhile it comes to people who are publically known and available to state authorities. Just stopping is not a conviction or punishment.
For Poles the stake goes beyond the government's dispute with the opposition. The point is to be certain that the prosecution is investigating the facts, and that the services are forced erstwhile the conduct truly requires it. Donald Tusk and Waldemar Żurek will not build assurance in you with images from morning detentions. Trust will come back erstwhile the public sees strong evidence, equal rules and valid decisions.
